Confessions of the Corazon: A Night of Storytelling

“Confessions of the Corazon” returns to the Corazon Cinema and Cafe with Kathy Kniery as our featured storyteller, on September 26th. According to her Tale Tellers of St. Augustine bio, it states:

Kathy is a recently transplanted Illinoisan. After 30 years of serving in public and private schools as a library/media specialist and sometimes social studies teacher, she gave up cold weather and snow for sunshine and ocean breezes. It was not a hard choice. Now retired she is focusing on the favorite part of her former career: storytelling. Kathy is also learning more about her favorite hobbies, photography and graphic arts.

Retired educator and storyteller and a fan of the CUBS! East Palatka, FL 32131

Barrels for Boobs Surf Contest & Beach Festival

Wahines of the Waves and Daybreaker Solutions have teamed up to bring St. Augustine Beach an action-packed, surf-inspired event for the whole family! Barrels For Boobs originated in Flagler County and has moved to beautiful St. Augustine Beach to celebrate the 5 year anniversary on Saturday, April 6th at the St. John’s County Ocean Pier.

The contest is open to all levels of amateur surfing. All ages of men, women, collegiate surfers, groms, and first timers are encouraged to compete. This 5th annual surf contest and beach festival will support local nonprofit, Pink Up The Pace, in their movement to provide breast cancer imaging services to uninsured and underinsured individuals in the area.

A fun-filled day in the sun, the event will include an all-day amateur surf contest, raffles, engaging beach activities, music, local flavors, and unique vendors. An official after-party will take place just across A1A Beach Blvd. at Café Eleven for live music from St. Augustine local band, Kapowski, starting at 8pm.

Surf divisions include Men’s (All-ages), Women’s (All-ages), Junior Men’s (18 and under), Junior Women’s (18 and under), Men’s Longboard, Women’s Longboard, and Co-ed Novice. The highly anticipated and free division “Weirdest Thing You Can Surf” division will also debut on St. Augustine Beach. Collegiate surfers can also contribute to an overall team score, with one school taking home the winning title. Generous sponsor prize packages are available, and each surfer will walk away with a surf-inspired goodie bag. Surfers can register at Barrelsforboobs.com

One in eight women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime along with one in 833 men. Early screenings and detection significantly increase survival rates, which is why Barrels for Boobs is proud to support St. Augustine-based Pink Up The Pace. Pink Up The Pace has funded over $250,000 in breast imaging services in St. John’s and Flagler counties over the past 10 years.
