Marking History with St. Augustine’s Waterworks Building

REGISTRATION REQUIRED. Ever wonder about the old brick building next to the Main Library and the carousel? Come learn about its history as the city’s first water works pumping station, as well as recent construction work undertaken to stabilize, rehabilitate, and restore significant building features. Jenny Wolfe, the Historic Preservation Officer for the City of St. Augustine, will give a presentation on this 1898 building at the Main Library and then guide attendees on a tour of the building. Please wear comfortable clothing and shoes appropriate for the tour as the Waterworks building is still under construction and is not air conditioned.

Construction work has been partially funded by Florida Bureau of Historic Preservation grants with matching funds provided by the City of St. Augustine as the property owner. Additional grant funds are being sought to continue work while the City considers potential future uses for the building. To register for the event, please call the Main Library at 904.827.6940 or register online at www.sjcpls.org. For more information about the Waterworks building, please contact Jenny Wolfe at 904.209.4326 or [email protected].
