Abstract painter Cyndi Horn is Butterfield Garage’s June Featured Artist.

On display will be her newest series of both Cruciform and Minimalist mixed media canvases

Cyndi Horn graduated from Florida State with a degree in graphic design, most of her career life has ranged from design studios, advertising agencies and TV broadcast networks, where she has been recognized on a local and state level with Addy Awards. She painted at a young age for meditation and gratification, and did not return to fine art until 2014 when she moved from Atlanta to Florida.

Her design influence provides a strong foundation for her non-objective work. Using color, line, shapes, textures and text in her multi media pieces, she works intuitively, allowing her impulses to drive the direction the piece takes. Simplifying and creating a visual rhythm is the underlying esthetic in her work.

Cyndi has become fascinated with using cruciforms as a unifying structure, in which she divides the canvas into active and calm areas. The intersecting crossovers and adjoining elements captivates the viewers imagination. Her minimalism paintings are stripped down simple composistions that evoke thru color or shape an expansive, restful moment. Cyndi will be in the gallery all day Sat. June 19 to discuss her work.

Cyndi is a member of SOMMA, Society of Mixed Media Artists, and has won several awards in the groups exhibits. She has been a member of Butterfield Garage Gallery for the last two years. Visit us during artwalk June 4th from 11am-9pm to view her paintings. We are are also open 7 days a week from 11-5pm. Free parking is available in front and back of the building.

Nancy Hamlin Vogler is March Featured Artist at Butterfield

NANCY HAMLIN-VOGLER presents BACKYARD STUDIO KITCHEN, a new series of mixed media paintings throughout March at Butterfield Garage. The artist will be present on Friday, March 5th , from 11-7 and will lead a demo/Q&A on the gallery portico on Saturday, March 20th from 1-4 pm.

During the past year’s isolation, She became immersed in a still life series, in which studio ephemera and her environment appear in diverse contexts: abstracted, realistic, within an imagined location. Hamlin-Vogler treats her subjects intriguingly, mixing her favorite materials – paints, pastels, collage, and recycled silkscreens – often leaving the viewer hanging by a thread yet satisfied with multiple possibilities.

Nancy’s artistic life has flowed in a series of interesting transitions. While in graduate school to continue her studies in French Literature, she became enthralled with silkscreen printing after taking a printmaking class at the University of Maine. She designed a colorful series of fine art cards, later to become the trademark images for her greeting card company, Eastern Sun Printworks. Upon earning her M.A., she left Maine and the USA for a backpacking trip around the world. During those profound two and a half years, the traveler kept written and painted journals, collected kitchen utensils and fabrics from many countries and gathered a wealth of experience to enrich her life’s journey and fuel her creative resources. Her career as a fine artist had thus begun.

Fast forward 35 years – after hard work and accomplishment in printmaking, she has refocused her time to paint and experiment in her spacious studio near the Fountain of Youth in St. Augustine, FL. Active in the local art scene, Hamlin-Vogler is a Managing Member of Butterfield Garage, a member of the Art Association and has received numerous high awards in outdoor juried art shows. Last year during the pandemic, Last September, several of her paintings were selected for a stellar exhibition at Chrisp Ellert Art Museum “The Nameless Now, NE FL Artists Respond”.

In 2020, Nancy was recognized with an Art Ventures grand from The Community Foundation of Northeast FL, to explore and reinterpret the contemporary still life genre. Follow her creative journey on her website: www.nancyhamlinvogler.com

Butterfield Gallery is located at 137 King St, St. Augustine, is open daily from 11-5, and has free parking front and back.

Emma Greenhill is Butterfield Garage’s February Featured Artist

Her paintings are a form of visual storytelling, each one full of nature and symbolism, left for the viewer to interpret. Emma will be in the Gallery monday Febuary 1 and Saturday Feb. 27 all day, to discuss her process and the inspirations behind her paintings.
Emma creates these figurative artworks from her imagination. With a rich color palette she sees the canvas as a window to the soul, capturing the strength and vulnerability of women overcoming adversity. Knitted into her work are glimpses of nature, often representing new life, rebirth and spiritual awakening.

“Painting is a form of therapy for me, I use it to transfer my feelings and release energy”

Mostly self taught Emma finds painting to be a continual learning experience, persevering to find techniques that transfer what is in her head to what is on the canvas. She finds painting joyful and frustrating all at the same time, sometimes sitting in front of the canvas and waiting and waiting to start and then starting and starting over, then stopping and taking a break then coming back to it until that magical moment, for no particular reason, when things start to flow and it becomes easy, joyful and fulfilling.

The painting “Boca” was inspired by a dog her husband had a very special relationship with and still talks about the special place the dog holds in his heart. Emma painting speaks to the bonds we develop with our pets, and the immense comfort and joy they bring us.

Emma paints from her home, and participates in art shows across the State while being represented by the Butterfield Gallery in St. Augustine. She has won several awards for her work, including Best of Show 2019 at the Old Florida Celebration of the Arts in Cedar Key.

PAM Jam comes to Butterfield Garage

During the entire month of November the gallery will feature 17 poet/artist pairs from the inaugural PAM Jam 2020. A year ago Ancient City poets teamed up with artists from Butterfield Garage to work together and create art based on each others work. The resulting poems and works of art will be displayed together, complete with QR code access to multi media videos of the various collaborations put to music by local musicians.

For many of the participants, this cross disciplinary was a first. The “how” to approach the process was purposely undefined, encouraging each pair to explore uniquely, and has opened new creative pathways for many of the artists. Musicians were included at the end to explore introducing a third element, with the intention of having a PAM Jam live event to celebrate and present the creative results of all three.

Due to Covid concerns, the live performances and readings have been moved online. The poetry and art is on display at the gallery, and the three elements have been showcased in 18 unique videos that can be accessed with any smart phone in the gallery or on PAMJam’s website: https://pam-jam.com/st-augustine/staipamjam/

Ancient City Poets posted footage of the poets reading live during their virtual October poetry reading on the Ancient City Poets YouTube Channel. The October 2020 readings are the poems created for PAM Jam. The link to listen is https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC-q1EFSh27tyqmGpiSAu4Vw.

This unique exhibit will be on view the entire month of November from 11:00am – 5:00pm everyday at Butterfield Garage Gallery. Butterfield is located at 137 King Street, St. Augustine, Florida. They will be open for First Friday.
