Florida Humanities Speaker Series: Dr. Roger Smith

May 10, 2018 @ 6:30 pm

$10

On May 10, 2018 at 6:30pm, author Dr. Roger Smith will host an engaging lecture to close out the spring series sponsored by the Florida Humanities Council. Dr. Smith will share secrets about the role that Florida played in the American Revolution and focus on newly recovered information concerning British intentions in the southern colonies. Dr. Smith’s research reveals that not only was the South crucial to the needs of the empire from 1775 on but that East and West Florida played critical roles in these designs.

Dr. Smith received his Ph.D. in Early American History and Atlantic World Studies from the University of Florida in 2011.  His work on the American Revolution in the southern colonies has received the Aschoff Fellowship Dissertation Award and the Jack and Celia Proctor Award in Southern History.

The event will take place in the Historic Pool Area (Café’ Alcazar) of the Lightner Museum, which can be accessed by side entrances located off Grenada and Cordova Streets. Doors open at 6pm for refreshments and seating; the lecture will begin promptly at 6:30pm. Seating is based on a first-come, first-serve basis. Dr. Smith will be selling his books at the lecture. Be sure to purchase your tickets early!
