DESCRIPTION:EMMA Concert Association is partnering with the Russian State Symphony for a live concert performance. The Russian State Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1957 within the All-Union Broadcasting System. The orchestra’s first music director was Samosud. Later\, such renown conductors as Aranovich\, Shostakovich\, and Rozhdestvensky were among the orchestra’s artistic directors until the early 90s when Maestro Polyansky took over the position of the artistic director and chief conductor. \nAt that time\, the orchestra was known as the State Symphony Capella of Russia\, the organization that also included a very well internationally recognized choral entity – the State Capella of Russia. The merger of these two independently run music organizations always fascinated Maestro Polyansky. It was up to him how to choose the right repertoire for both the orchestra and the choir\, something he has been doing very successfully for several decades. \nThe States Symphony Capella of Russia\, also known as the Russian State Symphony Orchestra\, ranks among the finest Russian symphony orchestras of the 21 st century. The Orchestra is a frequent visitor of numerous international festivals in European countries and the Far East. Their recent tours have taken place in Great Britain\, Switzerland\, Germany\, Italy\, Croatia\, South Korea and Taiwan. One of the music critics of “The Star” in Great Britain wrote: “While listening to the music conducted by Maestro Polyansky\, one starts thinking whether there is a limit to perfection”. “The Symphonies by Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninoff performed by the orchestra became a model of the highly respected tradition of interpretation and performance”\, – Corriere Della Sera of Italy noted. \nThe Russian State Symphony Orchestra concerts mark strict performing discipline\, flexibility of phrasing\, rich and warm sound\, nobility of expression\, and skillfully balanced sound of orchestral groups. Another aspect marked in reviews is a close creative unity and mutual understanding between the orchestra and conductor\, making it possible to realize most interesting and sophisticated artistic concepts. The orchestra’s upcoming seasons will feature major international tours to Japan\, and the United States. \nTickets to this event are $40.

St. Augustine playwright Amy Lauer Goldin’s new play is an original social satire that holds up a fun-house mirror to society and manages to skewer politics\, the media\, corporate America and a few everyday people just trying to navigate the minefield that we now call daily life. “Shrink Rap” runs January 31st through February 2nd\, and February 7th through February 9th. His photographs exude a stillness and beauty that stops viewers in their tracks. The thoughtfulness behind each shot has a lifetime of experience behind it.\nDan was born into a world of photography. Many of his relatives worked for Eastman Kodak or Xerox\, and photography was a popular discussion topic and activity growing up.\nHe began learning and experimenting with cameras and photography at a young age\, and even made his own pinhole camera\, which used polaroid film. Hand me down cameras were in abundance\, as relatives traded up.\nThe experience of using film cameras through his early years has given him a greater understanding about planning and composing a shot. Dan has developed an eye for recognizing and composing the “money” shot before he even lifts the camera. His experienced eye\, and questioning mind observes the world as he moves thru it\, looking for the unique perspective of an iconic scene.\nOnly then does Dan pick up his camera\, and with technical acumen take the photograph.\nHe has been working for the Navy for over thirty years and had the opportunity to travel the world\, with his camera always in hand. Japan had been his base for most all of the thirty years. With the move to Florida a six years ago he’s had the opportunity to meet and continue to learn from many experienced photographers. He loves to learn new ways to produce images that people will treasure. Hand me down cameras were in abundance\, as relatives traded up.\nThe experience of using film cameras through his early years has given him a greater understanding about planning and composing a shot. Dan has developed an eye for recognizing and composing the “money” shot before he even lifts the camera. His experienced eye\, and questioning mind observes the world as he moves thru it\, looking for the unique perspective of an iconic scene.\nOnly then does Dan pick up his camera\, and with technical acumen take the photograph.\nHe has been working for the Navy for over thirty years and had the opportunity to travel the world\, with his camera always in hand. Japan had been his base for most all of the thirty years. With the move to Florida a six years ago he’s had the opportunity to meet and continue to learn from many experienced photographers. He loves to learn new ways to produce images that people will treasure. Additionally he is a very active supporter and volunteer with the St Augustine Camera Club and St Augustine Art Association\, and his work can be viewed every day at Butterfield Garage Art Gallery at 137 King Street\, St Augustine.
