SUMMARY:CANCELLED – Woman’s Exchange Spring Luncheons 2020
DESCRIPTION:Those with reservations will receive a tax receipt for the ticket value to support the Woman’s Exchange Scholarship Fund\, a raincheck for the date of choice in the fall luncheon series\, or a full refund.\nBring your friends and join us in the spring for the popular twice-weekly luncheon series. Gourmet meals are prepared and served by members of The Woman’s Exchange under a large tented area in the garden. After enjoying a leisurely lunch\, browse our expanded shopping areas. Among the exclusive products is “The Woman’s Exchange Entertains\,” Volume Four of its members’ and friends’ special recipes\, many highlighting local flavors and traditions. \nOur luncheon series began in the late 1940s when the city’s hotels and tourist homes reopened after World War II to winter visitors. The gourmet meals\, made by Woman’s Exchange members from their own recipes\, were served buffet style on steam tables. Patrons then carried their plates to assigned tables covered by colorful garden umbrellas. After lunch\, they shopped in the Woman’s Exchange Gift Shop. \nToday\, there are two series of twice-weekly luncheons for three weeks in the Fall and three weeks in the Spring. All of our members are state-certified food handlers. Just as members before them\, they take care of all the preparations − menu planning\, cooking\, set up\, serving and clean-up. Many of the recipes are shared in our Woman’s Exchange cookbook\, which is for sale in our gift shop! \nThe luncheons include a full meal with dessert\, coffee or tea\, plus a $5 gift certificate on a $10 minimum purchase when you shop the day of the luncheon. In the Fall\, shopping spills over from the shop into Christmas in October\, where holiday gifts are shown in the expanded Peña-Peck House dining room\, visitors orientation center\, and the old kitchen. Likewise\, in the Spring\, the expanded shop\, called Miss Anna’s Boutique\, features Spring and Summer merchandise. In addition to showcasing the beautiful hand-crafted items made by our consignors\, we start searching for unusual and unique items at gift mart. We find that many of our guests plan their shopping\, particularly for the holidays\, around our annual sales. \nLunch is served at noon and shopping begins at 10:30 a.m. Opportunities abound in the Gift Shop\, Dining Room\, Visitor Orientation Center and the Old Kitchen for unique gifts. \nGuests may bring a bottle of wine to enjoy with lunch. Wine glasses are provided on request. \nTickets are $31.95\, which includes Florida Sales Tax and a $5 coupon to use in our expanded gift shop\, featuring hand-crafted products and unique items selected at gift mart.

SUMMARY:Searle’s Sack and Encampment
DESCRIPTION:Searle’s Raid is an annual event that recreates the famous bloody pirate raid on St. Augustine in 1668\, takes place on the first Friday and Saturday of March. Join the Historic Florida Militia in the reenactment of the “1668 Sack of St. Augustine” in our nations’ oldest city. During the day\, a 17th century-style military encampment will be open to the public at the Colonial Quarter and will play host to military drills\, demonstrations\, and living history interpretation. The actual sacking and burning of the town will commence Saturday evening at 4:30pm. The specific route may vary. \nThe procession that commemorates the arrival of the raiding pirates and introduces this annual event will begin at the Colonial Quarter at 4:30pm and will proceed north on St. George Street to the Santo Domingo Redoubt on Orange Street. The Searle’s Sack encampment will take place on the first Saturday from 10am to 4pm at the Colonial Quarter. The reenactment of the battle between the freebooters and the city’s Spanish defenders will take place in St. Augustine’s historic district at 4:30pm on Saturday. The English brigade will head up St. George Street from the Plaza toward the city gates\, and the battle will commence when the English try to invade the Spanish defenders who will be stationed at the Santo Domingo Redoubt off Orange Street across from Potter’s Wax Museum. Living history gets real when living historians demonstrate how the Spanish settlers had to fight off Searle and his pirates. \nEvents in the historic district are free.

SUMMARY:Villa Zorayda Museum’s Candlelight Tours
DESCRIPTION:Join the Villa Zorayda Museum this upcoming Holiday Season for their 10th Annual “Candlelight Tours” of the Museum which are offered on select evenings during St. Augustine’s “Nights of Lights” Celebration. \nThe Villa Zorayda Museum showcases beautiful Christmas decorations for the Holidays. A spectacular Christmas Tree decorated in the colors of the Zorayda – red and gold – is located center stage in the central “Court of Lions”. Over 100 candles are aglow throughout the Museum as docents lead you on your tour of the historic former home. These specialty tours have become one of the most popular things to do during St. Augustine’s Nights of Lights Celebration. \nCandlelight Tours typically last about 1.5 hours and include an in depth overview of the history of the Villa Zorayda\, its previous owners\, and the art and antique collection inside. The Museum features the priceless antique collections of both previous owners\, Franklin Smith and A.S. Mussallem. It was built in 1883 by Smith and it set a precedence for architecture in St. Augustine during the GIlded Age. \nRefreshments of homemade Christmas cookies and punch\, included with Select Candlelight Tour Dates.\nReservations are highly recommended as space is limited. Please call the Museum at 904-829-9887.
