DESCRIPTION:On the first Saturday of every month\, from 9-11am\, the Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve (GTMNERR) hosts a Guided Exploration Hike\, where attendees can learn about the cultural history of the Guana Peninsula\, as well as the natural ecosystem of the Reserve. \nA GTM naturalist will lead the hike and teach about the peninsula’s 5\,000 years of human history\, including how native peoples made use of the estuarine resources\, what European plantation life was like\, and current efforts to save those resources. \nThe hike is free\, but there is a $3 per vehicle parking fee at the reserve. \nPlease call (904) 823-4500 or visit here to reserve a spot on the tour. \n

DESCRIPTION:The Art Galleries of Saint Augustine founded and sponsors the award-winning First Friday Art Walk event on the first Friday of every month. Galleries open their doors from 5-9pm\, offering new art exhibits and lively receptions to the public. Start your free self-guided tour at any of the Art Galleries of Saint Augustine galleries. Most galleries are within close walking distance to each other; some are just a short ride away. Hop aboard the free Art Walk trains and trolleys that run throughout downtown. \nFeast on great arts & eats and the sounds of live music—rain or shine! For the late-nighters\, the celebration continues with “after parties” at area clubs and restaurants. Parking locations are shown on the map. Parking after 5pm is free except at the Historic Parking Garage. \nFrom 6-9pm\, Ripley’s Red Sightseeing Trains and The Old Town Trolleys provide free transportation during the Art Walk. The shuttles run every 20-30 minutes on a continuous loop (see map)\, allowing easy access to most of the downtown member galleries. The two-hour walks starts at the shoreline\, heads up through the dunes\, on the boardwalk over the salt marsh\, and finishes along Salt Run. Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable walking shoes and bring binoculars\, a camera\, drinking water\, bug spray\, and sunscreen. \nThe event is free with park admission.
