DESCRIPTION:The historic Tolomato Cemetery hosts guided tours of the grounds on the third Saturday of every month from 11 am to 3 pm. The grounds were in use as a cemetery from the 18th century until 1864 and is the final resting place to some 1\,000 St. Augustinians. \nThis guided tour encourages attendees to come and learn about the rich history of the cemetery\, and those from an array of cultures who rest there. Some including Spanish\, Cuban\, Greek\, Minorcan\, African\, Irish\, and Haitian. This event is an opportunity to learn about the true stories of the people\, as well as the tales of our oldest city. \nAdmission is free. \n

Murder Capital: 8 Stories\, 1890s – 1980s is his 20th book. His others include Devil in the Baptist Church: Bob Gray’s Unholy Trinity\, Stalking Ottis Toole: A Southern Gothic\, The Mad Atlas of Virginia King and In Search of Eartha White\, Storehouse for the People. Gilmore is the founder of JaxbyJax Literary Arts Festival\, now in its seventh year\, and the writer and creator of www.jaxpsychogeo.com\, a project that explores place and catalogues the Southern Gothic\, telling nearly 600 stories of strange and historic locations in and around Jacksonville\, Florida. Gilmore teaches Literature and Writing at Florida State College at Jacksonville\, where he was awarded a 2018 Distinguished Faculty Award. The Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville named Gilmore the 2018 Literary Artist of the Year. He served on Jacksonville City Council’s Civil Rights History Task Force and holds a Ph.D. in English from the University of Florida.
