DESCRIPTION:On the second and fourth Saturdays of each month\, the Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve (GTMNERR) hosts classes for the whole family to learn how to use seine nets to collect various fish and crab species. Visitors will get the chance to pull a seine net through Guana Lake\, collecting species of fish\, crabs and more\, and then learn about the animals and their roles in the habitat. The free event is led by a naturalist and all necessary gear is provided. Tickets for chowder tastes will be sold for $1 each. Patrons are welcome to vote for their favorite chowders to decide which wins the “People’s Choice” award. DESCRIPTION:On the first Saturday of every month\, the Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve (GTMNERR) hosts a Guided Exploration Hike\, where guests can learn about the cultural history of the Guana Peninsula\, as well as the natural biodiversity of the Reserve. \nA GTM naturalist leads the hike and talks about the peninsula’s 5\,000 years of human history\, including how native peoples made use of the estuarine resources\, what European plantation life was like\, and current efforts to save those resources. \nThe hike is free\, but there is a $3 parking fee.
