Her works were shown in prestigious museums across the U.S. and throughout Florida\, including the Mennello Museum of American Art\, a subsidiary of the Smithsonian\, which purchased five of her paintings in 2007. She was included in the World’s Who’s Who of Women and The Directory of American Portrait Artists.\nA champion of the arts\, Troemel founded the Winter Haven Ridge Art Association in 1950\, the PAStA Art Gallery in St. Augustine\, and served on the Florida Arts Group Board (FLAG). DESCRIPTION:Led by a park volunteer and free to all participants\, Fort Mose is hosting a guided bird walk on August 11 and 22. Fort Mose is situated along the Atlantic Flyway and boasts several natural environments where birds thrive. You can explore an estuarine tidal marsh\, a maritime hammock\, and “Rookery Island\,” which is home to many nesting species in the spring. \nGuests are encouraged to dress for the weather (this is Florida after all!) and bring binoculars\, water\, comfortable walking shoes\, and a field guide if they have one. \nThe event is free\, but there is a $2 per vehicle entrance fee to the Visitors Center.

DESCRIPTION:On the Second Saturday of every month\, Washington Oaks Gardens State Park hosts a Plant Sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The park offers a variety of rare and beautiful plants for sale\, as well as an activity at 11:00 a.m. \nGuests can view the beauty of the state park while also enjoying the sale.  The event is hosted by the Friends of Washington Oaks Gardens State Park\, a community-based not-for-profit organization whose mission is to preserve\, protect\, promote\, and provide interpretation at Washington Oaks Gardens and Faver-Dykes State Park. \nAdmission to this event is free. However\, regular park entrance fees apply $5 per vehicle with up to eight people\, $4 for a single-occupant vehicle\, and $2 for pedestrians/bicyclists. \nWhere: Washington Oaks Gardens State Park is located two miles south of Marineland off A1A South\, at 6400 N. DESCRIPTION:On the first Saturday of every month\, from 9-11am\, the Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve (GTMNERR) hosts a Guided Exploration Hike\, where attendees can learn about the cultural history of the Guana Peninsula\, as well as the natural ecosystem of the Reserve. \nA GTM naturalist will lead the hike and teach about the peninsula’s 5\,000 years of human history\, including how native peoples made use of the estuarine resources\, what European plantation life was like\, and current efforts to save those resources. \nThe hike is free\, but there is a $3 per vehicle parking fee at the reserve. \nPlease call (904) 823-4500 or visit here to reserve a spot on the tour. \n

DESCRIPTION:On the first Friday of every month\, St. Augustine’s art galleries welcome visitors to browse the latest art exhibits and enjoy refreshments and live entertainment at more than 25 participating galleries. For lovers of local art and culture\, the First Friday Artwalk is a great way to celebrate both the start of a new month and the end of a long week. Spend your time hopping from gallery to gallery in the downtown area or jump on a complimentary shuttle and check out the galleries on the beach. \nThe monthly event takes place from 5 to 9pm\, rain or shine\, throughout historic downtown and even over the Bridge of Lions onto Anastasia Island and the beach. Galleries will put out refreshments\, artists will be on hand to talk about their work\, even musicians will fill the air with music. It’s a local delight that you don’t want to miss. \nThis creative event is sponsored by The Art Galleries of Saint Augustine\, which is an artistic association of the diverse and eclectic art galleries located in the nation’s oldest city.

SUMMARY:From Asia to the Americas: the Art of Jean Wagner Troemel
DESCRIPTION:Take an extraordinary journey through the art and travels of Jean Wagner Troemel! Selections include original oils\, watercolors\, alkyds\, and mono prints representing Jean’s travels and adaptations of artistic movements. All artwork in the exhibition will be offered for sale with proceeds supporting the St. Augustine Art Association Jean Wagner Troemel Award in perpetuity. The exhibit will be on display at the St. Augustine Art Association starting July 20th\, with an Art Auction ($ reservations required) and running through August 25\, 2019. \nAbout the Artist\nBorn in Alma\, Michigan in 1921\, Jean Wagner Troemel was a versatile and prolific artist whose prized works are included in collections worldwide. She specialized in landscapes and also produced over 600 portraits\, many of historical figures. Troemel was an honored Fellow of the Royal Society of Art\, London. Her works were shown in prestigious museums across the U.S. and throughout Florida\, including the Mennello Museum of American Art\, a subsidiary of the Smithsonian\, which purchased five of her paintings in 2007. She was included in the World’s Who’s Who of Women and The Directory of American Portrait Artists.\nA champion of the arts\, Troemel founded the Winter Haven Ridge Art Association in 1950\, the PAStA Art Gallery in St. Augustine\, and served on the Florida Arts Group Board (FLAG). She spearheaded St. Augustine’s First Friday Art Walks and funded the Best in Show Award that continues to be presented monthly at the St. Augustine Art Association. Jean Wagner Troemel passed away on January 18\, 2018\, leaving behind an enduring and inspiring legacy of art. \nGALLERY HOURS: Tuesday through Saturday\, 12pm-4pm; Sunday 2pm-5pm; Closed on Mondays. Free Admission July 21-August 25\, 2019.
