DESCRIPTION:We kick off the season with our Christmas program on Dec. 15th at 7:30 pm and Dec. 16th at 2:00 pm in St. Augustine’s beautiful Cathedral Basilica. The chorus will be accompanied by brass\, percussion\, and strings\, including some traditional carols\, excerpts from Handel’s Messiah\, and a special appearance by the St. Augustine Youth Chorus. It is also the 200th anniversary of Silent Night. We will include the original version in this program\, which was altered slightly early on into the tune we know today. As we aspire to perform music of living composers\, this program includes the music of Z Randall Stroope\, Michael Engelhardt\, and Dr. Peter Mathews. We are excited to premiere our commissioned piece\, written for the chorus by Dr. Mathews\, entitled “What Sweeter Music.”

SUMMARY:Little Lightners – Animal Exploration\, ABC
DESCRIPTION:Come join us Sunday\, December 2nd at 10 am or 1 pm for Animal Exploration\, ABC\, a program for children ages 3 – 6\, and their caregiver.  Explore the Science and Technology gallery with a Lightner Educator\, searching for animals in the collection.  Some animals will be easy to find\, others might be hidden in plain sight! After the exploration\, use your creativity to make your own unique animal to take home. The class will meet in the Lightner Lobby before heading into the museum. The program will last 45 minutes.  Guests are encouraged to stay after the program for our daily Music Demonstrations\, occurring at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. \nProgram times: 10 am or 1 pm. Program admission is free. Registration through ShowClix is required\, space is limited. DESCRIPTION:The real Gingerbread Man will be out running amuck around the course…catch him if you can! Holiday socks\, hats and general candy cane striped attire are encouraged. Pets are also welcome! This family fun run has become the run of the season in St. Johns County. Participants will enjoy a beautiful\, safe course with awards for both runners and walkers. At the finish\, enjoy a Gingerbread Man cookie (of course) along with great eats and drinks for participants with our friends from PDQ and Tropical Smoothie Cafe. 10k/5k runners receive a great tee with a custom medal.

SUMMARY:64th Annual Christmas Parade
DESCRIPTION:St. Augustine’s 64th Annual Christmas Parade ushers in the holiday season with floats\, festive decorations and plenty of fun. Lots of local organizations participate in this event\, making it one of the largest parades in Northeast Florida. Holiday season decorations adorn all the entries\, from floats to marching bands to antique cars and horses and carriages. Even Santa joins in the spectacle\, as visitors and locals alike come down to the historic district to watch the procession. The parade begins at the Mission Nombre de Dios and ends at the Castillo de San Marcos.
