DESCRIPTION:“Florida’s Fleet: A Boatbuilding and Fishing Legacy\,” presented by Brendan Burke will be held on September 12 at 6:00 P.M.  The talk is part of the programming for the new exhibit\, Thinking Small: The Amazing Miniature World of Thomas Rahner\, which is a retrospective of St. Augustine resident Thomas Rahner’s small boat building skills. Both the lecture and exhibition are free and open to the public. \nThe talk will be in the held in the historic Alcazar Hotel pool.  Guests may enter through the Granada Street entrance to the Cafe Alcazar\, located across from the Corazon Cinema.  Doors will open at 5:30 P.M. for guests to explore Thinking Small: The Amazing Miniature World of Thomas Rahner\,  which is located in the East Gallery on the Mezzanine. \nSeating is limited\, and registration is encouraged!

DESCRIPTION:On the second and fourth Saturdays of each month\, the Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve (GTMNERR) hosts classes for the whole family to learn how to use seine nets to collect various fish and crab species. Visitors will get the chance to pull a seine net through Guana Lake\, collecting species of fish\, crabs and more\, and then learn about the animals and their roles in the habitat. The free event is led by a naturalist and all necessary gear is provided. DESCRIPTION:On the first Saturday of every month\, the Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve (GTMNERR) hosts a Guided Exploration Hike\, where guests can learn about the cultural history of the Guana Peninsula\, as well as the natural biodiversity of the Reserve. \nA GTM naturalist leads the hike and talks about the peninsula’s 5\,000 years of human history\, including how native peoples made use of the estuarine resources\, what European plantation life was like\, and current efforts to save those resources. \nThe hike is free\, but there is a $3 parking fee.
