SUMMARY:Curator’s Tour: Retail Therapy in the 19th Century
DESCRIPTION:Lightner Museum Curator Barry Myers conducts tours featuring unique and special treasures of the Museum. May’s tour will be held on the 2nd at 10am and offer guests an intimate encounter with a select few of the Lightner’s eclectic relics. \nShopping was alive and robust during the Victorian era. The Lightner Museum\, which was formerly the Alcazar Hotel built by Henry Flagler in 1888\, was surrounded by interesting shops. Jewelry\, high-end souvenirs\, and dress shops lined the first-floor courtyard space of the Alcazar. May’s topic\, Retail Therapy in the 19th Century\, will delve into the shopping trends of the day right here in St. Augustine as well as the rise of department stores and big retail establishments in America. \nThe tour will begin in the front lobby of the museum at 10am.

SUMMARY:Florida Humanities Speaker Series: Dr. Roger Smith
DESCRIPTION:On May 10\, 2018 at 6:30pm\, author Dr. Roger Smith will host an engaging lecture to close out the spring series sponsored by the Florida Humanities Council. Dr. Smith will share secrets about the role that Florida played in the American Revolution and focus on newly recovered information concerning British intentions in the southern colonies. Doors open at 6pm for refreshments and seating; the lecture will begin promptly at 6:30pm. Seating is based on a first-come\, first-serve basis. Dr. Smith will be selling his books at the lecture.
