SUMMARY:Progressive Rock Icons Styx
DESCRIPTION:The St. Augustine Amphitheatre is thrilled to welcome the return of progressive rock icons Styx to stage on Wednesday\, June 16\, 2021 for a limited-capacity concert with distanced seating. Enhanced safety measures and protocols are in place\, including contactless digital ticketing\, face\ncovering requirements\, and mobile ordering for concessions. Tickets Styx go on sale next Friday\, April 30 at 10:00am at the venue Box Office or online at Ticketmaster.com. \nThe six men comprising Styx have committed to rocking the Paradise together with audiences far and wide by entering their second decade of averaging over 100 shows a year\, and each one of them is committed to making the next show better than the last. Styx draws from over four decades of barnburning chart hits\, joyous singalongs\, and hard-driving deep cuts. Like a symphony that builds to a satisfying crescendo\, a Styx set covers a wide range of stylistic cornerstones. From the progressively sweeping splendor that is The Grand Illusion to the hunker-down fortitude of all that is the Blue Collar Man\, from the majestic spiritual love for a special Lady to the seething indictment of preening\, primping pageantry for pageantry’s sake of Miss America\, from an individual yearning for true connection as a Man in the Wilderness to a soul-deep quest to achieve what’s at the heart of one’s personal vision in Crystal Ball\, from the regal reach-for-the-stars bravado of Come Sail Away to the grainy\nall-in gallop of that rugged Renegade who had it made\, the band draws on an unlimited cache of ways to immerse one’s mind and body in their signature sound. \nAfter more than a decade together on the road\, this incarnation of Styx is looking forward to performing as many shows as it can as long as it can. “It all comes back to the chemistry\,” says bassist/vocalist Ricky Phillips. \n“The legacy of this band will be that it brought joy to millions of people\,” notes drummer Todd Sucherman. Observes keyboardist/vocalist Lawrence Gowan\, “We’ve always tried to explain why this is this happening. It’s obviously a multitude of factors\, but the main one is that our show is really good! And if it’s really good\, they’re going to come to see it again.” Styx hopes it’s a wave that never crests. “Every night\, we go on that magic carpet ride together\,” observes original bassist Chuck Panozzo\, who joins the band on tour as often as he can. “Music is this amazing force that comes from a higher place. I’m humbled for this band to have the great success that it has\,” says co-founding guitarist/vocalist James “JY” Young. “We just want to keep on doing this\,” asserts Tommy. “We want to let life take its course and let this music continue to be the soundtrack to it. And this band will continue to evolve as long as we live and play this music.” The jig is up\, the news is out: The Esprit de Styx is alive and well\, and now it’s time to see for yourself. Welcome to the Grand Evolution. \nTickets for Styx go on sale next Friday\, April 30 at 10:00am at The St. Augustine Amphitheatre Box Office and online at Ticketmaster.com. Tickets are sold in pre-configured pods (groupings) ranging from two to six seats per pod. SUMMARY:Drive-By Truckers Front-Man Patterson Hood
DESCRIPTION:The St. Augustine Amphitheatre\, in partnership with Flying Saucer Presents\, will proudly welcome Drive-By Truckers front-man Patterson Hood to The Backyard Stage on Thursday\, June 24\, 2021 for a limited-capacity concert with distanced seating. Enhanced safety measures and protocols are in place\, including contactless digital ticketing\, face covering requirements\, and mobile ordering for concessions. Tickets for An Evening with Patterson Hood go on sale this Friday\, April 16 at 10:00am at the venue Box Office or online at Ticketmaster.com. The Backyard Stage is proudly presented by Intuition Ale Works. \nPatterson Hood is a prolific writer and performer whose character-driven stories are packed with political subtext. He is best known as front-man\, singer\, songwriter and guitar player for the critically acclaimed rock and roll band Drive-By Truckers\, but is also a writer of essays\, columns and short stories. \nIn addition to his work with Drive-By Truckers\, Patterson has amassed three solo albums and co-produced or played on additional albums by Bettye LaVette\, Booker T. Jones and The Dexateens. \nAlabama is near to Hood’s heart\, being born in Florence and raised in the Muscle Shoals area. He attended The University of Northern Alabama before he moved to Athens\, Georgia where he lived for twenty-one years. \nWhen he relocated to Athens at age 30\, he “felt like he had died and gone to heaven.” Athens is where Drive-By Truckers was born\, and where Patterson really hit his stride. \nDrive-By Truckers have released 13 albums and played over 2\,000 shows in the past nineteen years. They also released a 35-song\, career-spanning box set in 2015 that was recorded live at The Fillmore in San Francisco. American Band\, their most recent album released in the height of election season on September 30\, 2016\, takes their political undertones much closer to the surface than ever before. \nPraises have rolled in for American Band since its release. NPR has claimed it to be one of the best albums yet from Drive-By Truckers\, deeming it “unapologetically progressive” and “a poignant take on what it means to be an American in a time when uncertainty and fear are omnipresent.” Rolling Stone raves\, “American Band comes from the very distinct perspective of a group that remains burdened by\, and reckoning with\, its own bloody southern history.” The record has been also been recognized on several 2016 year-end lists including The Los Angeles Times\, Chicago Tribune\, Rolling Stone\, NPR\, Uncut\, and Entertainment Weekly. \nTickets for An Evening with Patterson Hood go on sale this Friday\, April 16 at 10:00am at The St. Augustine Amphitheatre Box Office and online at Ticketmaster.com. Tickets are sold in pre-configured pods (groupings) ranging from two to six seats per pod. SUMMARY:Legendary Rock Vocalist Ann Wilson of Heart
DESCRIPTION:On Sunday\, June 27\, The St. Augustine Amphitheatre is thrilled to welcome legendary rock vocalist Ann Wilson\, of Heart\, to The Amp stage for a limited-capacity concert with distanced seating. Enhanced safety measures and protocols are in place\, including contactless digital ticketing\, face covering requirements\, and mobile ordering for concessions. Tickets for Ann Wilson go on sale Friday\, April 23 at 12:00pm at the venue Box Office or online at Ticketmaster.com. \nShe is\, simply\, one of the greatest voices in the history of rock n roll. Period. For the past 40 years\, Ann Wilson has been lead singer for the rock band Heart (35 million records sold)\, thrilling audiences with her vocal power and her natural gift to wrap her voice around an emotion in a song and lay it at the listener’s feet. Ann carved out a place for women to dominate a rock stage\, and her icon status was cemented when Heart was inducted into the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame. Ann’s early fascination with blues-based music culminated when she discovered Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin. She conquered his howls\, his wails\, and put her own female stamp on them. (In 2012\, Ann would bring Robert Plant to tears at the Kennedy Center Honors as he watched her masterful performance of his classic “Stairway To Heaven”.) \nAfter touring the big stages of the world with Heart\, Ann is eager to re-visit the bluesy fertile ground that gave rise to her one-of-a kind voice. She can bring intimacy to the stage\, breaking hearts along the way. And inevitably\, she will repair them as she transforms the moment into an up-on-your-feet\, Rock Party. Every audience walks away\, with wobbling knees\, knowing they have witnessed a legend in her prime. SUMMARY:Pioneering Alt-Country Rock Group Old 97’s Return to Ponte Vedra Concert Hall
DESCRIPTION:Ponte Vedra Concert Hall\, in partnership with Flying Saucer Presents\, is pleased to announce that pioneering alt-country rock group Old 97’s will return to the stage\non Friday\, October 1\, 2021 for a full capacity performance. Tickets for Old 97’s go on sale this Friday\, May 21 at 10:00am at The St. Augustine Amphitheatre Box Office or Ticketmaster.com. Ponte Vedra Concert Hall Box Office remains closed at this time. \nIn 1996\, Old 97’s recorded Too Far to Care. It was their major-label debut—following two independent releases and a year-long bidding war\, the Dallas-based quartet had signed with Elektra Records. But rather than venture into some state-of-the-art studio in New York or LA\, the band decamped to Village Productions in Tornillo\, Texas\, a remote facility in the middle of two thousand acres of pecan trees near the Mexican border\, with a mixing board acquired from an engineer who had worked on some of\nQueen’s albums. Now over twenty years later\, they have returned to record their eleventh studio album\, Graveyard Whistling. \n“Too Far To Care is the sound that best defined us\,” says Rhett Miller\, the lead singer and primary songwriter. “It was a really magical time\, and we go back to it a lot in our collective memory.” \nAnd so when it came time for the band—which still consists of the same four members: Miller\, guitarist Ken Bethea\, bassist Murry Hammond\, and drummer Philip Peeples—to record their newest endeavor\, producer Vance Powell brought up the idea of returning to Tornillo. “We knew instantly that it was the\nperfect move\,” says Miller. “We weren’t trying to remake Too Far to Care\, but to make something where fans would say\, ‘This band hasn’t lost a step in twenty-some years.’” \nThe result is the eleven songs of Graveyard Whistling\, from a group that has earned the respect and veneration as one of the pioneers of the alt-country movement\, while still retaining the raucous energy\, deceptive cleverness\, and knockabout spirit that first distinguished them from the pack. The record comes out blazing with the breakneck shuffle of “I Don’t Want to Die in This Town” (based on a possibly apocryphal quote from Frank Sinatra)\, and maintaining that feverish intensity even when the tempo drops on songs like the more contemplative “All Who Wander.” Echoes of such barroom saints as the Replacements and the Pogues appear on sing-alongs “Bad Luck Charm” and “Irish Whiskey Pretty Girls\,” but bigger and more mature issues simmer underneath the steamroller swing. \nTickets to see Old 97’s go on sale this Friday\, May 21 at 10:00am at The St. Augustine Amphitheatre Box Office or Ticketmaster.com. Ponte Vedra Concert Hall Box Office remains closed at this time. A friendly reminder that all tickets are digital.
