SUMMARY:Gaudete! Rejoice!
DESCRIPTION:As we celebrate our 70th anniversary this season\, the St. Augustine Community Chorus\, under the direction of Mike Sanflippo\, is pleased to announce the opening of our 2018-2019 concert series with two December performances of Gaudete! Rejoice! to be presented Saturday\, December 15th at 7:30 pm and Sunday\, December 16th at 2:00 pm at the beautiful Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine. The chorus will be accompanied by brass\, percussion\, and strings\, including some traditional carols\, excerpts from Handel’s Messiah\, and a special appearance by the St. Augustine Youth Chorus. It is also the 200th anniversary of Silent Night. We will include the original version in this program\, which was altered slightly early on into the tune we know today. As we aspire to perform music of living composers\, this program includes the music of Z Randall Stroope\, Michael Engelhardt\, and Dr. Peter J. Mathews. We are excited to premiere our commissioned piece to celebrate SACCs 70th anniversary\, written for the chorus by Dr. Mathews\, entitled “What Sweeter Music.”

SUMMARY:Steven Wilson
DESCRIPTION:Thanks to a prolific work ethic\, self-taught producer\, engineer\, and multi-instrumentalist Steven Wilson has gradually become one of the U.K.’s most critically acclaimed cult artists. \nTwenty something years ago\, around the time that the first records bearing Steven Wilson’s name began attracting critical interest\, the big message in rock ‘n roll was that modern life was rubbish. Sound tracking a politically grey country stuck in a technological rut\, popular music seemed to echo the underlying thought of the time. Something’s got to change. \nFast-forward to the second decade of the 21st century. Politics are in a state of self-inflicted turmoil; the connective technology that was meant to free us has become weaponized. It’s like everybody’s got the start of the millennium psychosis blues and modern life is out of control. \nWith that in mind\, how should music in 2017 react to the flux and uncertainty of the here and now? If you’re Steven Wilson – now unarguably the UK’s biggest underground artist – the response is less about trying to make a state of the nation address and more about holding up a well-polished mirror to reflect back the chaos. \nLyrically\, the 11 tracks on Steven Wilson’s fifth album To The Bone tackle such era-defining themes as everyday fanaticism; self-loathing caused by the pressures of online life; displacement by war and the hope that we try to pass on to future generations. Musically\, the whole thing sparks and flashes in arcs of glorious color\, fusing driving futurist rock and spectral electronics to elegiac hyperspace ambience and dizzying squalling guitars. \nTo The Bone is a bold\, forward-thinking rock record. From the thunderous swampy rhythms of the album’s titular opener and the glimmering\, stratospheric climb of “Nowhere Now” through the album’s two tales of unstinting home grown fundamentalism (“People Who Eat Darkness\,” “Detonation”) via the gorgeous\, acoustic break-up narrative of “Blank Tapes” and “Pariah’s” volcanic coda\, the record presents 11 of Steven’s most concise\, tightly melodic songs to date. \nFor anyone who’s followed Steven’s career since the early ’90s – four times Grammy nominated\, the founder and front man of adored outsider rock band Porcupine Tree; as a remixer for acts like Roxy Music\, Simple Minds and XTC or as a self-sufficient solo artist\, hugely respected for a series of visionary LPs starting with 2008’s Insurgentes – To The Bone might sound like a departure. In fact\, it’s a lovingly crafted paean to the progressive pop records that heavily influenced the formative years of his youth. \n“People generally think my music is rooted in the ‘70s but really I came of age in the ’80s\, and grew up with post punk\, new wave and Trevor Horn’s productions. Recently I found myself going back to listen to albums like So by Peter Gabriel\, Hounds of Love by Kate Bush\, Tears for Fear’s Seeds of Loveand Talk Talk’s Colour of Spring. They were mainly made by musicians who’d come out of the crucible of innovative\, experimental ’70s music but still wanted to write great songs that people could hum on the bus.”

SUMMARY:Roger McGuinn and Chris Hillman with Marty Stuart & His Fabulous Superlatives
DESCRIPTION:On the 50th anniversary of their groundbreaking album\, Sweetheart of the Rodeo\, Byrds co-founders Roger McGuinn and Chris Hillman will perform the album in its entirety and tell the stories that brought the album to life.  Along with cuts from Sweetheart of the Rodeo\, McGuinn and Hillman also sing some other favorites from their long recording careers. The pair will be joined on stage for the tour by country legends Marty Stuart and His Fabulous Superlatives. Stuart himself plays the famous 1954 Fender Telecaster originally owned by legendary country-rock pioneer Clarence White\, a performer on Sweetheart of the Rodeo. \nSweetheart of the Rodeo is widely considered to be one of the most influential country rock albums of all time\, and credited with giving rise to the genre. In 2003\, the album was ranked #117 on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of The 500 Greatest Albums. “On March 9\, 1968\, Roger McGuinn and I along with many fantastic musicians began recording the Sweetheart of the Rodeo album at Columbia Studios in Nashville\,” says Chris Hillman. “It was truly a pivotal moment in our lives taking a turn toward the music we always felt a strong kinship with. We are honored that it has left a strong\, long lasting impression on country and rock music. To celebrate this special time with Roger\, Marty Stuart and His Fabulous Superlatives is such a blessing on this\, the 50th anniversary of Sweetheart of the Rodeo.” \nRoger McGuinn adds: “Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Sweetheart of the Rodeo with a group  of my favorite musicians is an honor. I can’t wait to be on stage with Chris Hillman\, Marty Stuart and those Fabulous Superlatives! We’re all looking forward to taking the fans through the back pages of the recording. The concert will include songs that led up to that ground breaking trip to Nashville and all the songs from the album.” \nMarty Stuart said about the influence the album had on him: “The Bryds’ Sweetheart of the Rodeo recording stands as a milestone in American music. I bought my first copy of the record in 1972. Upon my first listen\, I was mesmerized at the effect of the combined power Country music\, Rock & Roll\, Bluegrass\, Gospel and Folk music had on me. From that day forward\, I considered Sweetheart of the Rodeo a blueprint as to how I should live my musical life. It is truly an honor for me and the Superlatives to get to go out and play music from Sweetheart with Roger and Chris. We love and greatly admire both of them and I have to believe this is a show not to be missed.”

SUMMARY:Donna the Buffalo with guest Western Centuries
DESCRIPTION:One of the most dynamic and determined bands continuously touring America since 1989\, Donna the Buffalo has created a community environment at their shows through their distinctive\, groove-heavy and danceable music. Donna the Buffalo is a band for the people that is accessible\, positive\, and memorable. With roots in old time fiddle music that evolved into a soulful electric American mix infused with elements of Cajun/zydeco\, rock\, folk\, reggae and country\, Donna’ s music often contains social and moral responsibility as core beliefs\, and they are just simply fun to get out and celebrate life with. \nDonna the Buffalo just passed the marker as their 25th year as a band and have proven to be a true purveyor of American music. What’s the recipe? To be sure\, it’s infused with more spices than you’ll find at a Cajun cookout by way of a southern-fried\, rockin’ country old-time jamboree. “For the dizzying array of styles and genres with which they work\, Donna the Buffalo maintain a surprising level of consistency… over the course of their 25-year career\, they retain a sharp focus that has helped them create some truly lasting music…” writes Elmore Magazine. “Few groups are this comfortable as performers\, and even fewer would take as many risks.” \nDonna the Buffalo is Jeb Puryear (vocals\, electric guitar) and Tara Nevins (vocals\, guitar\, fiddle\, accordion\, scrubboard) joined by David McCracken (Hammond organ\, Honer Clavinet and piano)\, Kyle Spark (bass) and Mark Raudabaugh(drums). “It’s been really fun with this lineup\,” Puryear says. “You get to the point where you’re playing on a really high level\, things are clicking and it’s like turning on the key to a really good car. It just goes.” \nIn an era of unprecedented access to our musical pasts\, shouldn’t country music be even more diverse than it was in its infancy? Honky-tonk supergroup Western Centuries\, back with a new album in 2018\, surely understands this. They aren’t bound by any dictum to write songs in a modern country\, or even a retro country style; instead they’re taking their own personal influences as three very different songwriters and fusing it into a sound that moves beyond the constraints of country.

SUMMARY:Rita Coolidge
DESCRIPTION:In support of her newest album with Blue Élan Records\, Safe in the Arms of Time\, Rita Coolidge returns to her musical roots and poignant songwriting as she did in her acclaimed 2015 memoir\, Delta Lady\, drawing inspiration from her personal journey. \n“I’ve written so many songs assuming a role like an actor\, but this time I got to write from experience\,” says Coolidge\, who co-wrote three of the album’s 12 wondrous cuts. “This is the best record I’ve ever done. I’m extremely proud of it.” \nIn many ways\, Safe in the Arms of Time is both a reflection and a continuation of Coolidge’s remarkable history\, one that took flight during the heyday of the ‘70s L.A. music scene when she sang backup on Stephen Stills’ “Love the One You’re With” and Eric Clapton’s “After Midnight.” (And astute music fans are well aware of how she contributed the classic – and uncredited – piano coda to Derek & the Dominoes’ “Layla.”) “The idea was making an album that had the same appeal of my early records – to make a roots record about my own roots\,” Coolidge says. \nAnd so it was only fitting that Coolidge and producer Ross Hogarth\, along with an all-star lineup of top musicians – guitarist Dave Grissom\, bassist Bob Glaub\, keyboardist John “J.T.” Thomas\, and drummer Brian MacLeod – assembled at L.A.’s Sunset Sound\, the famed recording studio where she recorded her first solo albums on A&M Records 30 years ago. “Going back to Sunset Sound was taking a journey into the past – there was a memory down every hallway\,” Coolidge says. \nCoolidge wrote two of the album’s standout cuts – the sparky blues number “Naked All Night” and the smooth-soul gem “Walking on Water” – with Grammy-winning blues star Keb’ Mo’ and singer-songwriter Jill Colucci in Nashville. Trading vocals with Keb’ Mo’ on “Walking on Water” was a thrill for Coolidge\, who enthuses\, “I literally have every Keb’ Mo’ CD. I’ve been a fan for decades.” \nSafe in the Arms of Time also gave Coolidge the chance to reunite with one of her real-life past flames\, one who has remained a cherished friend\, Graham Nash. Nash and drumming legend Russ Kunkel had offered Coolidge their smoky blues rocker “Doing Fine Without You” two years before she began recording. “I said to them\, ‘I don’t know when I’m doing a record. Can I put this on hold?” When she and Hogarth started the project\, it would be one of the first songs they picked. \nThe “Delta Lady” (as she was named by her fellow Mad Dogs & Englishmen tour member Leon Russell) has captivated fans during her astonishing 50-year career\, selling millions of copies of signature hits such as “We’re All Alone\,” “The Way You Do the Things You Do\,” “All Time High”\, and “(Your Love Has Lifted Me) Higher and Higher.” Her eight-year relationship with former husband Kris Kristofferson yielded three top-selling albums (including the No. 1 hit Full Moon) and multiple Grammy Awards. \nSafe in the Arms of Time marks the first new music Coolidge has recorded since the tragic death in 2015 of her beloved sister\, Priscilla\, a recording artist and member of Walela\, the Native American trio she and Coolidge founded with Priscilla’s daughter\, Laura Satterfield. The recording of the album also coincided with Coolidge’s relocation from Southern California to a new life in Tallahassee\, where in the 1960s\, as an art major at Florida State University\, she discovered her true calling as a musician – and never looked back.

SUMMARY:Marcia Ball & Her Band
DESCRIPTION:“Rollicking\, playful\, good-time blues and intimate\, reflective balladry… her songs ring with emotional depth” – Rolling Stone Magazine \n“A welcome ray of sunshine… Ball is a killer pianist\, a great singer and songwriter. Potent blues\, sweet zydeco\, soulful\, fast and furious Texas boogie… heartfelt\, powerful and righteous” – Billboard Magazine \n“Fifty years have passed in a flash\,” says Texas-born\, Louisiana-raised pianist\, songwriter and vocalist Marcia Ball of her long and storied career. Ball\, the 2018 Texas State Musician of the Year\, has won worldwide fame and countless fans for her ability to ignite a full-scale roadhouse rhythm and blues party every time she takes the stage. Her rollicking Texas boogies\, swampy New Orleans ballads and groove-laden Gulf Coast blues have made her a one-of-a-kind favorite with music lovers all over the world. With each new release\, her reputation as a profoundly soulful singer\, a boundlessly talented pianist and a courageous\, inventive songwriter continues to grow. Her love of the road has led to years of soul-satisfying performances at festivals\, concert halls and clubs. The New York Times says\, “Marcia Ball plays two-fisted New Orleans barrelhouse piano and sings in a husky\, knowing voice about all the trouble men and women can get into on the way to a good time.” \nWith her new album\, Shine Bright\, Ball set out to\, in her words\, “Make the best Marcia Ball record I could make.” In doing so\, she has put together the most musically substantial\, hopeful and uplifting set of songs of her five-decade career. Produced by Steve Berlin (Los Lobos) and recorded in Texas and Louisiana\, Shine Bright contains twelve songs (including nine originals)\, ranging from the title track’s rousing appeal for public and private acts of courage to the upbeat call to action of “Pots And Pans\,” a song inspired by renowned Texas political writer and humorist Molly Ivins. From the humorous advice of “Life of the Party” to the poignantly optimistic “World Full of Love\,” the intensity of Ball’s conviction never wavers while\, simultaneously\, the fun never stops. Shine Bright is exactly the album Ball set out to make. “It is a ridiculously hopeful\, cheerful record\,” she says\, in light of some of the album’s more serious subject matter. The secret\, according to Ball “is to set the political songs to a good dance beat.” \nOf course\, Ball will bring the party on the road\, playing her new songs and old favorites for fans around the globe. “I still love the feel of the wheels rolling\,” she says\, “and the energy in a room full of people ready to go wherever it is we take them.” With both her new album and her legendary live performances\, Marcia Ball will shine a light into the darkness\, making the world a brighter place one song at a time. \nPresented in partnership with Flying Saucer Presents.

SUMMARY:Florida Chamber Music Project Presents Haydn\, Higdon\, & Mozart “Exaltation Larks”
DESCRIPTION:The Florida Chamber Music Project is proud to celebrate its sixth year of providing a wonderful repertoire of chamber music for the Northeast Florida region. Although performances by small groups of musicians date back several thousand years\, chamber music as we know it today reached great heights beginning in the early 1600s and continues to thrive in popularity in the 21st century. Often described as music performed in an intimate setting by an ensemble of friends for an audience of friends; chamber music lives on today through our musicians providing enjoyment for listeners of all ages. One of the factors contributing to the unique nature of these performances is the rich repertoire featuring one musician on a part. Within each composition\, the technical skills and musical expression of each player contributes to an intimate musical conversation among friends. \nThe 2018-2019 season features widely varied music for string quartet and the return of pianist Hyunsoon Whang\, who will join FCMP for music by Schumann. Selections include quartets from Joseph Haydn to Grammy award winning Jennifer Higdon. The ensemble will also present an American concert featuring a quartet by Mark O’Connor and Dvorak’s “American Quartet”. The season concludes with Beethoven’s famous String Quartet Opus 59\, No\, 3. Join the Florida Chamber Music Project for a remarkable sixth season of the finest chamber music at the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall.

SUMMARY:Lake Street Dive with guest Mikaela Davis
DESCRIPTION:Lake Street Dive has announced new tour dates for January 2019 in support of their album Free Yourself Up. Following a successful run of more than eighty performances this year\, many of which sold out\, shows in the New Year include Charlotte\, Ponte Vedra Beach\, Birmingham\, New Orleans\, and more. \nWhile in New York next month\, the group has two major headlining performances scheduled for the Beacon Theater\, on November 5 and 6. They will then be honored for their support of music and arts education at the tenth annual Little Kids Rock Benefit on November 8 in Manhattan. Then on November 12\, Lake Street Dive sits down for a conversation with one of their biggest fans\, Stephen Colbert\, celebrated host of CBS’s Late Show\, and plays a few songs live at a sold-out 92nd Street Y event. \nThe title of Lake Street Dive’s Free Yourself Up is both an exhortation to listeners and a statement of purpose for the band. The songs have an infectious swagger\, even when dealing with awkward breakups or the unsettled state of our world. Free Yourself Up is Lake Street Dive’s most confident album yet\, seriously soulful and exuberantly rocking. And\, in many ways\, it is Lake Street Dive’s most intimate and collaborative\, with the band itself taking over the production reins and working as a tightly knit unit to craft these ten songs. In addition\, the quartet drafted touring keyboardist Akie Bermiss to join them in the studio\, literally freeing the band up to explore a wider range of instrumental textures\, construct more full-bodied arrangements\, and build stacks of lively background harmonies. The sound is influenced by late sixties-early seventies R&B\, AM pop\, and FM rock while the lyrics are informed more by contemporary events. \nLake Street Dive was for many years a self-reliant unit. After forming in 2004\, while members (Bridget Kearney\, Mike Olson\, Mike Calabrese and Rachael Price) were studying at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston\, they assiduously built a following through a series of independent album releases\, countless club tours\, and a few lucky breaks. In 2013\, producer T Bone Burnett invited them to join a star-studded lineup at a New York City concert where they practically stole the show—and wound up with a deal from Nonesuch Records. The band’s label debut\, Side Pony\, was greeted with raves. Rolling Stone called it “irresistible” and the Boston Globe said\, “Side Pony is a confident\, expertly played statement from a band that’s been honing its approach for more than a decade\, and it clearly shows that Lake Street Dive is ready to make itself known to whatever audiences have yet to succumb to its many charms.” \nPresented in partnership with Flying Saucer Presents.

SUMMARY:Reckless Kelly and Nikki Lane
DESCRIPTION:Understanding the virtuosity of Reckless Kelly requires the perspective of where the band has been. Cody and Willy Braun grew up in the White Cloud Mountains of Idaho. They moved to Bend\, Oregon\, and then migrated to that great musical fountainhead\, Austin\, Texas. The band’s co-founders and frontmen toured the country as part of their father’s band\, Muzzie Braun and the Boys\, as children. They performed on The Tonight Show twice. They overcame hardships\, struggled for recognition\, and learned the lessons of the trial and error that defined them.\nIn one sense\, it’s remarkable in the way of any musician\, athlete\, or businessperson who bucks the odds. In another\, though\, it’s utterly natural that Reckless Kelly\, born in the dreams of the two Braun brothers and their heritage but nurtured in the bumpy road of maturity\, became the very essence of Americana music in all its far-flung glory. \n“We came along in that second wave of the movement\,” Cody Braun says. “Son Volt’s album Trace had a major effect on us. People like Joe Ely\, Ray Kennedy and Robert Earl Keen were always big supporters. Our goal was to make music that had a country vibe but a solid rock edge.”\nIn the end\, all the recipe required was to just add water. Water facilitates life. It enriches the soul. As Music Row magazine proclaimed\, “In my perfect world\, this is what country radio would sound like.” “This” is Reckless Kelly. Reckless Kelly’s string of critically acclaimed albums – Under the Table and Above the Sun (2003)\, Wicked Twisted Road (2005)\, Bulletproof (2008)\, Somewhere in Time (2010)\, Grammy-nominated Good Luck & True Love (2011) and Grammy-winning Long Night Moon (2013) – set a standard of reliable excellence and commitment to an instinctive vision of Americana. No band exemplifies the broad genre better. The group’s new album\, Sunset Motel\, is\, like all its predecessors\, distinctive in its own way while true to form and reflects Reckless Kelly’s attention to craft and continuity. Twenty years since its founding\, Reckless Kelly continues to fight for wider recognition\, secure in the knowledge that fans\, critics and contemporaries will continue to sing its praises. \nNikki Lane\, the young Nashville singer\, is quickly emerging as one of country and rock’s most gifted songwriters. Her latest album\, Highway Queen\, was co-produced by Lane and fellow singer-songwriter\, Jonathan Tyler\, and is an emotional tour-de-force. Blending potent lyrics\, unbridled blues guitars and vintage Sixties country-pop swagger\, Lane’s new music will resonate as easily with Lana Del Rey and Jenny Lewis fans as those of Neil Young and Tom Petty. \nIn 2014\, Lane’s second album All or Nothin’ (New West) solidified her sandpaper voice beneath a ten-gallon hat as the new sound and look of outlaw country music. Produced by Dan Auerbach\, the record’s bluesy Western guitars paired with Lane’s Dusty Springfield-esque voice earned glowing reviews from NPR\, the Guardian and Rolling Stone. In three years since her Walk of Shame debut\, Lane said she was living most of the year on the road. Highway Queen is poised to be Lane’s mainstream breakthrough. “Am I excited to spend years of my life in a van\, away from family and friends? No\, but I’m excited to share my songs\, so they’ll reach people and help them get through whatever they’re going through. To me\, that’s worth it.”

SUMMARY:The Outlaws
DESCRIPTION:Formed in Tampa in 1972\, The Outlaws – known for their triple-guitar rock attack and three-part country harmonies – became one of the first acts signed by Clive Davis (at the urging of Ronnie Van Zant) to his then-fledgling Arista Records. The band’s first three albums The Outlaws\, Lady In Waiting and Hurry Sundown – featuring such rock radio favorites as “There Goes Another Love Song”\, “Green Grass & High Tides”\, “Knoxville Girl” and “Freeborn Man” – would become worldwide gold and platinum landmarks of the Southern Rock era. Known as ‘The Florida Guitar Army’ by their fans\, The Outlaws earned a formidable reputation as an incendiary live act touring with friends The Allman Brothers\, Lynyrd Skynyrd\, The Marshall Tucker Band and The Charlie Daniels Band as well as The Doobie Brothers\, The Who\, Eagles and The Rolling Stones. \nFor The Outlaws\, it was always about the music. For 40 years\, the Southern Rock legends celebrated triumphs\, endured tragedies and survived legal nightmares to remain one of the most influential and best-loved bands of the genre. Now The Outlaws return with new music\, new focus and an uncompromising new mission: It’s about a band of brothers bound together by history\, harmony and the road. It’s about a group that respects its own legacy while refusing to be defined by its past. But most of all\, it’s about pride. \nIt’s About Pride is the new album from The Outlaws\, a record 4 years in the making and perhaps 20 or more in the waiting. And for original Outlaws singer/songwriter/guitarist Henry Paul\, it’s a hard-fought revival whose success can be measured in old fans and new music. “Because The Outlaws have been out of the public eye for so long\, it’s almost like starting over\,” he explains. “But because of the band’s history\, we’re seeing this as a new chapter. We’ve written and recorded this album on our own terms\, and we’re out to make a significant impression. What our fans loved then they still love now\, because we are just as good as or even better than we were. Most of all\, they recognize the heart of what it is we still do.” For co-founding drummer/songwriter Monte Yoho\, the journey is both bittersweet and jubilant. “I still think about the friends we made when we first came into this industry\, how we struggled to define this thing that became known as ‘Southern Rock’\,” Yoho says. “This new album embodies all the things we shared musically and personally\, as well as the relationships we have with our fans to this day. It’s about where we’ve been\, where we’re going\, and why we still love to do this.

SUMMARY:Old 97’s and Shooter Jennings
DESCRIPTION:Rocking alt-country stalwarts Old 97’s and Shooter Jennings will co-headline the Concert Hall on Saturday\, January 26\, 2019. \n“Rock and roll’s been very\, very good to me\,” Rhett Miller sings on “Longer Than You’ve Been Alive\,” an epic six-minute stream-of-consciousness meditation on his life in music and the opening track to the Old 97’s 2014 release\, Most Messed Up. To say that rock and roll has been good to the Old 97’s(guitarist/vocalist Rhett Miller\, bassist/vocalist Murry Hammond\, guitarist Ken Bethea\, and drummer Philip Peeples) would be an understatement. The band emerged from Dallas over 20 years ago at the forefront of a musical movement blending rootsy\, country-influenced songwriting with punk rock energy and delivery. The New York Times has described their major label debut\, Too Far to Care\, as “a cornerstone of the ‘alternative country’ movement… [that] leaned more toward the Clash than the Carter Family.” They’ve released a slew of records since then\, garnering praise from NPR and Billboard to SPIN and Rolling Stone. The band performed on television from Letterman to Austin City Limits and had their music appear in countless film and TV soundtracks. \nNow\, with over 20 years and 10 albums to their name\, the Texas alt-country stalwarts are back with their eleventh LP\, Graveyard Whistling via ATO Records. The album was recorded in the same Tornillo\, Texas studio as their 1996 debut\, Too Far to Care. The band also still contains its original four members – Miller\, guitarist Ken Bethea\, bassist Murry Hammond\, and drummer Philip Peeples. “We weren’t trying to remake Too Far to Care\, but to make something where fans would say\, ‘This band hasn’t lost a step in twenty-some years\,’” explains Miller. The result is the 11 songs of Graveyard Whistling\, from a group that has earned the respect and veneration as one of the pioneers of the alt-country movement\, while still retaining the raucous energy\, deceptive cleverness\, and knockabout spirit that first distinguished them from the pack. \nFor nearly two decades\, Shooter Jennings has defied expectation while constantly expanding the parameters of country\, rock ‘n’ roll\, and beyond. The scion of American music royalty\, he has affirmed his own place in histories still to come as a truly limitless artist whose ambitious experimentation spans myriad genres and creative platforms\, from releasing seven solo LPs\, countless EPs\, and founding his own label and multimedia outlet\, Black Country Rock\, to hosting his “Shooter Jennings’ Electric Rodeo” on Sirius XM’s Outlaw Country channel\, producing music by Jamey Johnson\, Wanda Jackson\, and his mom\, Jessi Colter\, and the creation of acclaimed BBS Door games (available via his own BCRGames.com). \nEver the outlaw\, Jennings has now crafted what might well be his most truly idiosyncratic work thus far\, SHOOTER. Produced by longtime friend and collaborator\, Low Country Sound founder Dave Cobb\, at the renowned RCA Studio A on Nashville’s Music Row\, the album sees Jennings staking out a fairly straightforward goal: to simply make a great country record. It should be noted\, Jennings’ last studio album was a genuinely visionary tribute to Giorgio Moroder so in some ways\, making a straight up country record is as much of a left turn as anything else in his brilliantly mercurial career thus far. But with songs like “Fast Horses & Good Hideouts” or the raucous “I’m Wild & My Woman Is Crazy\,” Jennings more than affirms his mission by returning to country’s original\, if oft misplaced\, mandate: singing songs about growing up and getting older\, about going out and getting trashed. In short\, making music for real people with real lives. With SHOOTER\, Jennings truly puts his own mark on country music\, living up to his extraordinary birthright with unparalleled passion\, experience\, and heart.

SUMMARY:Crash Test Dummies
DESCRIPTION:Canadian rock band Crash Test Dummies will reunite for the first time in 17 years to celebrate the 25th anniversary of their seminal sophomore album God Shuffled His Feet. The North American tour will launch November 23 and will feature the original line-up of Brad Roberts\, Ellen Reid\, Dan Roberts\, and Mitch Dorge. \n“After a huge hit in Canada with our folksier debut album\, our next effort was dubbed ‘too new a sound’ by our Canadian compatriots. In America however\, it managed to pique the interest of a new and frankly much larger group of listeners and soon “Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm” became a bonafide hit south of our border\, and eventually all over the world\,” says Brad Roberts. “It was a wild ride for us that year. Now we’re celebrating the 25th anniversary reuniting with our original line-up and dusting off our old set lists. It will be the first time we’ve toured with the full band since 2001\, and we’re very excited about it.” \nThe 1993 platinum selling and Grammy-nominated album God Shuffled His Feet hit #1 in Austria and New Zealand and also reached the Top Five in the national albums charts of numerous countries including Australia\, Norway\, Sweden and Switzerland. The album reached #6 in the Netherlands national albums chart\, #2 in the UK and broke the Top 10 landing at #9 in the United States Billboard 200 albums chart. God Shuffled His Feet features their most unusual and highly popular single\, “Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm” as well as other fan favorites. The memorable cover artwork featured the superimposed the faces of the band atop figures in the Titian painting “Bacchus and Ariadne.” \nIn 2008\, Consequence of Sound featured the album in their Guilty Pleasure column stating\, “God Shuffled His Feet made the Dummies famous worldwide with a handful of folk-rock songs that shattered the perception of what rock radio could play. “Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm”-yeah\, the humming song about blue hair and birthmarks-had everyone from soccer moms to metal heads singing along and tapping their toes. ‘Afternoons and Coffeespoons\,’ a hypochondria and T.S. Elliot-inspired romp\, soars with gorgeous acoustic strumming\, the trademark quirky harmonica playing of Ben Darvill\, and the angelic backup vocals of keyboardist Ellen Reid. Songs like the album’s title track\, ‘Here I Stand Before Me\,’ and ‘How Does a Duck Know?’ are odd philosophical rockers\, taking on everything from theism to Descartes. I credit these particular tunes for making my college philosophy courses bearable.”

SUMMARY:Neko Case with guest Kimya Dawson
DESCRIPTION:“Hell-On is one of [Case’s] best… her voice remains a force all its own.” [Rolling Stone] … “Soaring” [Entertainment Weekly] … “Gutting” [New York Magazine] … “A pitch-perfect roar of female defiance” [The Guardian]. These are just a few of the peerless reviews of Hell-On\, Neko Case’s 8th and latest studio album. In the midst of her US fall headlining tour\, Case performed three songs from the record on CBS This Morning: Saturday. \nWhen Neko Case returned to the US and walked through the ruins of her home\, the fire that had blazed after these songs were written became part of the record. For the cover\, she made a warrior’s helmet out of cigarettes. Interior and exterior shots of her incinerated house appear on the gatefold and booklet. And a tiny pop-open charred Brothers-Grimm cottage serves as the set for the video of “Bad Luck.” \nIt was as if nature invented a landscape for Hell-On after the fact: a melted ladder\, seared insulation dangling in ribbons\, the internal organs of pianos. She thought it should all be included in solidarity with those who had lost so much in the past year. \nAll the living creatures present at the time of the fire were found alive\, and so Case was able see beauty in the bleak scene. “It felt like this out-of-time Jacques Cousteau undersea expedition through a sunken World War II ship. Of course there’s some shit I miss\,” she says\, citing family photographs and a favorite sweater. “But none of it matters.” \nAnd as for those fairy tales she’s writing and the history she’s remembering: “We need them now more than ever. We need stories from all sectors. Stories without endings. Stories with multiple endings. Stories that don’t end happily\, cautionary tales\, everything. We don’t need Disneyfied stories anymore.” \nThe record was born at the hands of some three dozen performers in all\, from k.d. Lang\, Laura Veirs\, Beth Ditto\, and Robert Forster on backing vocals\, to Joey Burns of Calexico and Doug Gillard of Guided by Voices on guitars\, and Barbara Gruska and Matt Chamberlain on drums. The sidelong perspective is part of the known Neko galaxy\, but the production is more expansive and edgier\, moving into new universes. These are songs that can swallow you. \nA force of nature\, an act of a mercurial\, forgotten god\, Hell-On is a record sealed by fire\, filled with love and rage and dangers that might lay waste to everything at any moment. So if you wake up dazed in a smoking landscape\, walking through the detritus of your own lost civilization with the smell of ash in your hair\, your favorite sweater gone and a new song in your head\, don’t say you weren’t warned. \nNeko Case has partnered with PLUS1 so that $1 from every ticket will go to Peer Solutions and support their positive youth leadership and development program designed to prevent harm before it begins and engage lifetime ambassadors of positive change.
