SUMMARY:Russian State Symphony
DESCRIPTION:EMMA Concert Association is partnering with the Russian State Symphony for a live concert performance. The Russian State Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1957 within the All-Union Broadcasting System. The orchestra’s first music director was Samosud. Later\, such renown conductors as Aranovich\, Shostakovich\, and Rozhdestvensky were among the orchestra’s artistic directors until the early 90s when Maestro Polyansky took over the position of the artistic director and chief conductor. \nAt that time\, the orchestra was known as the State Symphony Capella of Russia\, the organization that also included a very well internationally recognized choral entity – the State Capella of Russia. The merger of these two independently run music organizations always fascinated Maestro Polyansky. It was up to him how to choose the right repertoire for both the orchestra and the choir\, something he has been doing very successfully for several decades. \nThe States Symphony Capella of Russia\, also known as the Russian State Symphony Orchestra\, ranks among the finest Russian symphony orchestras of the 21 st century. The Orchestra is a frequent visitor of numerous international festivals in European countries and the Far East. Their recent tours have taken place in Great Britain\, Switzerland\, Germany\, Italy\, Croatia\, South Korea and Taiwan. One of the music critics of “The Star” in Great Britain wrote: “While listening to the music conducted by Maestro Polyansky\, one starts thinking whether there is a limit to perfection”. “The Symphonies by Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninoff performed by the orchestra became a model of the highly respected tradition of interpretation and performance”\, – Corriere Della Sera of Italy noted. \nThe Russian State Symphony Orchestra concerts mark strict performing discipline\, flexibility of phrasing\, rich and warm sound\, nobility of expression\, and skillfully balanced sound of orchestral groups. Another aspect marked in reviews is a close creative unity and mutual understanding between the orchestra and conductor\, making it possible to realize most interesting and sophisticated artistic concepts. The orchestra’s upcoming seasons will feature major international tours to Japan\, and the United States. \nTickets to this event are $40.

SUMMARY:Lucero
DESCRIPTION:Lucero has long been admired in their hometown of Memphis\, where they have hosted “The Lucero Family Block Party” every spring for a number of years. At the 2018 Block Party they celebrated their 20th anniversary as a band\, with the city’s Mayor Jim Strickland officially declaring it “Lucero Day.” \nThe group found their name in a Spanish/English dictionary. “Lucero” is variously translated as “bright star” or “morning star.” None of them can speak Spanish. \nIt’s been two decades since original members Ben Nichols\, Brian Venable\, Roy Berry\, and John C. Stubblefield (keyboardist Rick Steff joined in 2006) started playing shows in Memphis. The band’s first show was April 13\, 1998 at a warehouse space across the street from what is now the National Civil Rights Museum\, the infamous Lorraine Motel where Martin Luther King Jr. was shot. Their first set was six songs played to about six people. in Colorado. \nThe band’s ninth studio album\, Among the Ghosts\, is their first for noted Nashville indie label Thirty Tigers. It was recorded and co-produced with Grammy-winning engineer/producer and Memphis native Matt Ross-Spang (Jason Isbell\, Margo Price\, Drive by Truckers) at the historic Sam Phillips Recording Service\, the studio built by the legendary producer after outgrowing his Memphis Recording Service/Sun Studio. \nRecorded primarily live as a five-piece\, Among the Ghosts eschews the Stax-inspired horns and Jerry Lee Lewis-style boogie piano featured on some of the band’s past recordings for a streamlined rock & roll sound that pays homage to their seminal influences as it seeks to push that legacy into the future. For a band who carried the torch of the alt-country movement back in the 90’s and helped pave the way for what is now called Americana\, Lucero have re-discovered what inspired them in the first place. The sound is more their own and at the same time not exactly like anything they’ve done before. This is a band settling into their craft. The 10-song disc’s title is both a tribute to the spirits which roam the streets of their fabled city\, as well as the hard road the determinedly independent band set out on 20 years ago. The band played around 200 shows per year for many of those 20 years.

SUMMARY:Southside Johnny and The Asbury Jukes
DESCRIPTION:Southside Johnny’s story is one of resilience\, perseverance and making music for the love of music. It leaves you with a strong feeling of respect. Even though his friends Bruce Springsteen and Jon Bon Jovi achieved more fame\, Southside Johnny’s unmatched dedication will be remembered forever. The singer-songwriter and the front man of Southside Johnny and The Asbury Jukes is known for influencing what critics call the “New Jersey sound\,” but if you ask him about it as I did\, he would tell you that this sound does not exist. He believes every musician has his or her unique sound. \nEmerging from the New Jersey Shore music scene of the mid-1970’s\, co-founded by Steven Van Zandt (later of the E Street Band and The Sopranos)\, the Jukes’ classic R&B sound\, driven by soulful guitar and blistering horns\, propelled hits like “I Don’t Want to Go Home\,” “Having a Party\,” “The Fever\,” and “Talk to Me” up the charts. Rolling Stone Magazine voted Hearts of Stone one of the Top 100 albums of the 1970s and 1980s. \nPresented in partnership with Florida Theatre.

SUMMARY:Lenten Concert Series
DESCRIPTION:A Lenten Organ Concert Series is offered at Memorial Presbyterian each year during the Wednesdays of Lent at 12:30pm. Guest recitalists come from across the community\, the country\, and the world to play Memorial’s 155-rank\, over five thousand pipe\, Aeolian-Skinner organ. Admission is free. Donations are appreciated. \nIn 1969\, Reverend Dr. David Redding and organist Everett Eubanks approached two long-term members of the congregation about funding a new pipe organ for the congregation. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Johnson\, closely tied to the Mellon family of Pittsburgh\, Pennsylvania\, provided the money necessary for the project. The church selected the Aeolian-Skinner Pipe Organ Company of Boston\, Massachusetts\, to install the new pipe organ. The new organ contained 90 ranks and over 5\,000 pipes including the chimes from the old Roosevelt-Estey organ. In 1971\, the organ expanded with two additional divisions: the Bombarde division above the organ in the casework and the Antiphonal division in the north balcony. The Aeolian-Skinner organ at Memorial Church represents one of the “American Classic Organs” produced by the company during this period. In 2000\, R.A. Colby\, Inc. of Johnson City\, Tennessee\, rebuilt the organ console adding new MIDI technology to the organ allowing the organ to be played remotely in six locations throughout the sanctuary.

SUMMARY:Eric Johnson “Classics: Present and Past”
DESCRIPTION:Eric Johnson has been traveling on a prolific odyssey over the course of more than four decades. Along the way\, his creations have encompassed repertoire that cross pollinate genres which include rock\, blues\, jazz\, fusion\, soul\, folk\, new-age\, classical and even country. Inevitably E.J. says it best himself in sharing. “It really boils down to the music and the song at the end of the day\,” he explains. “If it doesn’t have that it gets boring for me. The most important thing for me is to grow musically and make a more expansive and meaningful artistic statement with every new project.” \nAs another decade turns\, the guitarist\, vocalist\, composer\, and multi-instrumentalist will release a new studio offering titled EJ Vol II. This album follows its predecessor from 2016 which was simply EJ\, an all-acoustic collection of songs which showcased nine original compositions and four covers. His approach was deeply honest\, intimate\, personal and delivered with organic emotion. The touring which followed presented the rare opportunity for fans to enjoy the artist’s performances on both guitar and piano. With EJ Vol II\, Johnson presents new repertoire that combines electric and acoustic arrangements. Additional detail on the upcoming album release will follow later this year. \nAmong Johnson’s many accolades are a Grammy award for “Cliffs Of Dover ” (a track from his Platinum certified Ah Via Musicom)\, lifetime induction into the Guitar Player Gallery of Greats\, his listing among the “100 Greatest Guitarists of the 20th Century” by Musician. In his hometown of Austin TX\, a city full of guitarists the readers of the Austin Chronicle have voted Johnson the city’s “Best Electric Guitarist” and “Best Acoustic Guitarist” in their yearly poll year after year. They also named him “Electric Guitarist of the Decade” and one of the top five “Musicians of the Decade”. \nThroughout his career\, Johnson has approached music as a healing force\, a way to enhance a listener’s consciousness and conjure joy and inspiration. “That’s what I’ve always appreciated most about other artists\,” he says. “Some artists inspire us to wake up and get back to the clarity of consciousness. With this record\, I’m trying to do that too\, because I appreciate it so much in other people.”

He was also inducted twice into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame\, as a solo artist and with CSN\, and he is a GRAMMY Award winner. \nTowering above virtually everything that Graham Nash has accomplished in his long and multi-faceted career\, stands the litany of songs that he has written and introduced to the soundtrack of the past half-century. His remarkable body of work\, beginning with his contributions to the Hollies opus from 1964 to ’68\, including “Stop Stop Stop\,” “On A Carousel\,” and “Carrie Anne\,” continues all the way to This Path Tonight (2016)\, his most recent solo album. Fifteen of his songs are celebrated in the 2018 release\, Over the Years…\, a 2-disc collection of some of Nash’s best-known works from the past 50 years and more than a dozen unreleased demos and mixes. \nThe original classic union of Crosby\, Stills & Nash (& Young) lasted but twenty months.  Yet their songs are lightning rods embedded in our DNA\, starting with Nash’s “Marrakesh Express\,” “Pre-Road Downs” and “Lady Of the Island\,” from the first Crosby\, Stills & Nash LP (1969).  On CSNY’s Déjà Vu (1970)\, Nash’s “Teach Your Children” and “Our House” beseeched us to hold love tightly\, to fend off the madness that was on its way. \nNash’s passionate voice continues to be heard in support of peace\, and social and environmental justice. The No Nukes/Musicians United for Safe Energy (MUSE) concerts he organized with Jackson Browne and Bonnie Raitt in 1979 remain seminal benefit events.  In 2011\, Nash was instrumental in bringing MUSE back to the forefront with a concert to benefit Japan disaster relief and groups promoting non-nuclear energy worldwide. That same year\, he and Crosby were among the many musicians who made their way to the Occupy Wall Street actions in lower Manhattan. \nIn September 2013\, Nash released his long-awaited autobiography Wild Tales\, which delivers an engrossing\, no-holds-barred look back at his remarkable career and the music that defined a generation. The book landed him on the New York Times Best Sellers list\, and was released in paperback in late 2014.

SUMMARY:CANCELLED – The Expendables “Winter Blackout Tour”
DESCRIPTION:The Expendables enjoyed a laid-back lifestyle growing up in Santa Cruz\, CA; surfing\, skating\, partying\, and playing music were commonplace. Since 1997\, The Expendables have staked their claim in the California surf/rock genre by headlining venues from coast to coast. Blending Reggae\, Punk Rock\, and 80s style dueling guitar solos\, The Expendables have made heads turn and floors shake for years. The band consists of four longtime friends: Geoff Weers (Guitar and Vocals)\, Adam Patterson (Drums and Vocals)\, Raul Bianchi (Lead Guitar) and Ryan DeMars (Bass).  The first seven years of their career was fueled with three full-length\, completely independent releases.  No Time To Worry (2000)\, Open Container (2001)\, and Gettin’ Filthy (2004)\, would bring in a combined total of over 40\,000 units sold with no physical distribution and no record label. \nArtikal Sound System is a reggae band from Delray Beach\, Florida. Blending roots and modern sounds under smooth female vocals\, they put their efforts towards bringing love\, good vibes and a dancing mood wherever they go. The band features Logan Rex\, Fabian Acuña\, Chris Montague\, Adam Kampf\, and Chris Cope. \nBased in Charlotte\, N.C.\, Of Good Nature\, has received quick attention to their newly released\, chart topping music. Rock\, Groove\, Alternative and Reggae are more popular descriptions of OGN’s fusion-friendly approach to today’s music\, but this group of prolific songwriters explore a range of styles that have led to a highly accessible sound. Recent full length album Timeless debuted at #1 on iTunes and #3 on Billboard (Reggae Albums Chart) in March 2019 and single “Take Me Anywhere” premiered on Sirius XM’s The Pulse.

SUMMARY:CANCELLED – Steve Hackett
DESCRIPTION:Steve Hackett is renowned as an immensely talented and innovative rock musician. He was lead guitarist with Genesis as part of their classic line up with Gabriel\, Collins\, Banks and Rutherford\, that produced acclaimed albums such as Selling England by the Pound (a favorite of John Lennon). With Steve’s extraordinary versatility in both his electric guitar playing and his composing\, he involves influences from many genres\, including Jazz\, World Music and Blues. He is equally adept in his classical albums. \nWith Genesis\, Steve’s guitar playing produced some of the most memorable moments\, from the sensitivity of his acoustic sound on “Horizons and Blood on the Rooftops” to the dramatic rock guitar solos of “Firth of Fifth” and “Fountain of Salmacis.” As he embarked on his solo career he developed his exceptional range\, pushing musical boundaries into exciting areas\, inventing new sounds and also techniques such as ‘tapping’. His solo career went from strength to strength resulting in the highly successful single “Cell 151” in the mid-eighties\, as well as the Steve Hackett and Steve Howe super group GTR\, highly successful in America. \nGenesis’s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in March 2010 stands as a testament to the enduring qualities of their music. Steve has always held a torch for the classic Genesis music. His Genesis Revisited II\, a double CD\, involved several iconic artists and contains many Genesis favorites. It was released in late October 2012. A “Genesis Revisited” worldwide tour in 2013 was followed by a “Genesis Extended Tour” in 2014 and has continued to tour his particular brand of “Genesis Revisited” by popular demand\, interspersed with the might and majesty of his own solo material. \nWith the announcement throughout Europe and the UK\, of his climactic 2019 tour “Selling England by the Pound” combined with the 40th anniversary of his inaugural solo album Spectral Mornings\, Steve has ignited huge interest throughout the world to witness this spectacular show.

SUMMARY:CANCELLED – An Evening with Bruce Hornsby
DESCRIPTION:Bruce Hornsby\, the creatively insatiable pianist and singer-songwriter from Williamsburg\, Virginia\, always has succeeded on his exceptional gifts\, his training\, and his work ethic. He became a global name in music by reimagining American roots forms as songs that moved with the atmospheric grace of jazz. The Way It Is defined sonic joy on the radio\, however as a hit record it also evidenced a thrilling re-structuring\, and during the years afterward Hornsby\, in staggeringly diverse ways\, has kept going. \nHe has returned to traditional American roots forms\, collaborating with Ricky Skaggs. He has played with the Grateful Dead. He has fused the plunk and dazzle of twentieth-century modernist classical composition to singer-songwriter emotional inquiries. He has scored films. He has performed with symphony orchestras. If the sound of an arrogant air-conditioner or a stretch of rude playing caught his ear\, he has entered the hallowed doors of the conservatories of punk. So when Hornsby describes Absolute Zero\, his new album\, as “a compendium of what I like and moves me\,” don’t expect perhaps a thing or two new. Prepare for a multifaceted ride. \nPresented in partnership with Flying Saucer Presents.

SUMMARY:CANCELLED – Stephen Lynch
DESCRIPTION:Stephen Lynch is an American actor\, best known for his roles in The Usual Suspects\, Bio-Dome\, and The Flintstones: Viva Rock Vegas. He comes from a high-powered showbiz family\, which includes brothers Alec\, Daniel and… wait a minute… this is Stephen Baldwin’s bio- oops. My bad. Stephen LYNCH is a songwriter\, comedian and Tony Award-Nominated actor. His songs are known for their haunting melodies\, complex and Lord-pleasing chord structures and insightful lyrics\, often exploring the universal themes of heartbreak\, family strife\, and more. \nLynch has released four studio albums\, four live albums and two concert specials\, including Live at the El Rey in 2004 and his latest\, Hello\, Kalamazoo! in 2016. His most recent recording\, the double live/studio album My Old Heart was released in summer of 2019 and reached the #1 spot on Billboard’s Comedy charts. \nAs the result of the duality of his act\, Lynch often plays venues more often suited to music than comedy\, eventually graduating from the bars and VFW halls of the early days to locations such as Town Hall\, Shepherd’s Bush Empire and the esteemed Carnegie Hall. He gained great national exposure with his “Comedy Central Presents” special in 2000\, one of the highest rated in the network’s history. He has made appearances on Comedy Central’s “Premium Blend\,” “The World Comedy Tour\,” and “The World Stands Up\,” and has performed at the prestigious “Just for Laughs Comedy Festival” in Montreal\, Quebec\, Canada. He starred in his second “Comedy Central Presents” in 2008. \nIn April 2006\, Lynch starred as Robbie Hart in the Broadway musical The Wedding Singer\, which ran on Broadway from April 27\, 2006 through December 31\, 2006 at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre. This musical production was based on the 1998 New Line Cinema film The Wedding Singer starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore. The musical\, Lynch’s Broadway debut\, co-starred Tony Award-Winner Laura Benanti in the role of Julia Sullivan\, played by Barrymore in the film. The April 2006 opening followed a successful preview run in Seattle at The 5th Avenue Theatre\, which ran from January 31 through February 19. His performance has earned him nominations for a Tony\, Drama League and Drama Desk Award. \nLynch performed on his first European tours in 2008\, headlining concerts in England\, Sweden\, Norway\, the Netherlands\, Finland\, Ireland\, Scotland and Germany. All but two of the seventeen shows sold out\, despite never playing a majority of the markets. Lynch attributes this success to YouTube. \nLion\, Lynch’s first double live/studio recording was released in November\, 2012. He toured the world behind that album with his band\, consisting of Rod Cone\, Charlie King and singer/songwriter Courtney Jaye. They would hone the act that would eventually make up 2016’s Hello\, Kalamazoo! special. \nIn 2017 Lynch did a tour of the United States to test out the material that would end up on My Old Heart. In 2018 he recorded the album and embarked on two European tours.  He is currently writing and recording his next album. He does not know Stephen Baldwin.
