DESCRIPTION:An Artist Talk will be First Friday December 6\, at 6pm. Ron’s enigmatic themes beg for explanations. It will be a treat to hear him describe the inspirations and process.\nWorking in wood\, stone\, metal and other natural materials\, Ron creates beautifully executed\, multi textured works of art that almost defy explanation. His highly conceptual work\, combined with meticulous craftsmanship\, commands attention. The viewer gradually sees beyond the surface beauty into the unexpected mystery of each piece. In Ron’s words\, “My work celebrates the journey of the creative process\, born from conceptual images\, inspired by my imagination\, and realized using the tactile\, organic attraction natural materials. Throughout this process there is a continuing dialogue that takes place between the materials and the design\, as well as a commitment to enduring craftsmanship. The process involves creating a fluid vocabulary\, through a language of materials. The finished work offers the viewer my visual message\, constructed from layers of tactile materials and subtle details.” \nHe often uses a variety of materials: metal\, stone\, fossils\, found objects\, light or digital imagery – but wood and metal are often the primary materials. Deciding what palette of woods to use\, the grain direction and figure\, subtle changes in natural coloration\, decisions on relief relationships\, overlays or inlays\, contrasts in texture\, color\, or material\, subtle or dramatic detailing… are just some of the decisions that take place throughout his creative process. These materials are merged seamlessly into a finely crafted final piece of work. It is through these sensitive relationships\, conversations\, and skillful executions that each piece is born. The closer you look at Ron’s wall sculptures\, the more you will hear that “language of materials.” \nRon began creating these multi-material sculptures in the mid 70’s and quickly caught the attention of the art world. Numerous shows\, exhibitions and commissions followed. He has been awarded grants to produce art in public places\, and had his work published in several art magazines. After living in Texas and then Maine\, Ron and his family moved to St. Augustine in 2004. His work has been shown in The Cultural Center of Ponte Vedra Beach\, the St. Augustine Art Association\, and can be viewed every day at Butterfield Garage Gallery.

DESCRIPTION:Join the Villa Zorayda Museum this upcoming Holiday Season for their 10th Annual “Candlelight Tours” of the Museum which are offered on select evenings during St. Augustine’s “Nights of Lights” Celebration. \nThe Villa Zorayda Museum showcases beautiful Christmas decorations for the Holidays. A spectacular Christmas Tree decorated in the colors of the Zorayda – red and gold – is located center stage in the central “Court of Lions”. Over 100 candles are aglow throughout the Museum as docents lead you on your tour of the historic former home. These specialty tours have become one of the most popular things to do during St. Augustine’s Nights of Lights Celebration. \nCandlelight Tours typically last about 1.5 hours and include an in depth overview of the history of the Villa Zorayda\, its previous owners\, and the art and antique collection inside. The Museum features the priceless antique collections of both previous owners\, Franklin Smith and A.S. Mussallem. It was built in 1883 by Smith and it set a precedence for architecture in St. Augustine during the GIlded Age. \nRefreshments of homemade Christmas cookies and punch\, included with Select Candlelight Tour Dates.\nReservations are highly recommended as space is limited. DESCRIPTION:An Artist Talk will be First Friday January 3\, at 6pm.\nDan Voellinger is becoming known in St. Augustine as the go to photographer for finding unexpected local scenes\, both in black and white and color. His photographs exude a stillness and beauty that stops viewers in their tracks. The thoughtfulness behind each shot has a lifetime of experience behind it.\nDan was born into a world of photography. Many of his relatives worked for Eastman Kodak or Xerox\, and photography was a popular discussion topic and activity growing up.\nHe began learning and experimenting with cameras and photography at a young age\, and even made his own pinhole camera\, which used polaroid film. Hand me down cameras were in abundance\, as relatives traded up.\nThe experience of using film cameras through his early years has given him a greater understanding about planning and composing a shot. Dan has developed an eye for recognizing and composing the “money” shot before he even lifts the camera. His experienced eye\, and questioning mind observes the world as he moves thru it\, looking for the unique perspective of an iconic scene.\nOnly then does Dan pick up his camera\, and with technical acumen take the photograph.\nHe has been working for the Navy for over thirty years and had the opportunity to travel the world\, with his camera always in hand. Japan had been his base for most all of the thirty years. With the move to Florida a six years ago he’s had the opportunity to meet and continue to learn from many experienced photographers. He loves to learn new ways to produce images that people will treasure. Additionally he is a very active supporter and volunteer with the St Augustine Camera Club and St Augustine Art Association\, and his work can be viewed every day at Butterfield Garage Art Gallery at 137 King Street\, St Augustine.

DESCRIPTION:Celebrating its 20th Season\, the First Coast Opera is putting on a performance of the H.M.S. Pinafore\, a comic opera that follows the story of Captain Corcoran’s daughter\, Josephine who has captured the attention of two men: the lowly sailor Ralph Rackstraw and the pompous Sir Joseph Porter. Dive in for an evening of laughter\, wit\, and of course\, music for a lively performance. \nThis weekend-long event will have performances on Saturday\, January 4 and Sunday\, January 5. \nAdmission \nTickets to this event are $40\, children get in free with an adult.
