SUMMARY:Loving Beethoven Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:In 2020\, the world will celebrate Ludwig van Beethoven’s 250th birthday anniversary. The Cultural Center at Ponte Vedra Beach\, in partnership with MIMMA (Interactive Music Museum in Malaga\, Spain) is paying tribute to this milestone thanks to the traveling musical installation Loving Beethoven. The interactive music installation will be at the Cultural Center from March 6\, 2020 to May 26\, 2020. \nAn Opening Reception will take place on Friday\, March 6\, 2020 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a special preview for Renaissance Members at 5:30 p.m. The suggested donation is $5. \nAt the end of June\, 2019\, Cultural Center Director Donna Guzzo visited the museum in Malaga\, Spain to start discussions with the MIMMA Director\, Miguel Angel Piedrola. After the visit to MIMMA\, Guzzo requested the collaboration with MIMMA to develop a program that will showcase music-related activities and host the exhibit in the United States at the Cultural Center at Ponte Vedra Beach. The interactive nature of the MIMMA exhibits\, with galleries full of musical instruments where the public is encouraged to touch and try\, is one of the traits the Cultural Center is looking to replicate during the exhibit in Florida. \n“Loving Beethoven ties together the Cultural Center’s mission and the Center’s outreach program Sound Connections® Music Therapy perfectly. We are thrilled to be working with Miguel Angel Piedrola and MIMMA on our first collaborative\, international project.”\n– Executive Director Donna Guzzo

SUMMARY:The Women
DESCRIPTION:‘The Women’ tells a story of struggle and strength for International Women’s Day\nSt. Augustine\, Fla. – The Flagler College Department of Visual and Performing Arts will\npresent Clare Boothe Luce’s “The Women” with performances starting March 4 in Flagler\nCollege’s Lewis Auditorium. \nSet in the 1930s\, the play tells the story of Mary Haines\, a New York City socialite\, who discovers\nher husband is having an affair. Mary must decide whether to feign ignorance and save her\nmarriage or divorce her husband and allow her rival to replace her. \nTrue to its name\, “The Women” is an entirely female cast. Although the script calls for 35\nspeaking parts\, the Theatre Arts department was able to cast 20 students\, with some playing as\nmany as four different parts. The play can be a challenge to produce\, due to its large cast and\nmany locations\, but Program Director for Theatre Arts\, Paul Denayer\, designed a set to\naccommodate the scope of the play. \n“The issues these women face are timeless\,” said Elaina Wahl-Temple\, resident artist and\ndirector of the show. “The script is full of strong women facing difficult challenges and rising to\nmeet them.” \nPresented by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service\, “The Women” will run March 4-\n7 at 7:30 p.m. and March 8 at 2 p.m. All performances take place in the Lewis Auditorium at 14\nGranada Street.\n“It is wonderful timing that our run coincides with International Women’s Day\,” said Wahl Temple. “A fitting tribute to the ladies of the play as well as the playwright herself.” \nTickets are $15 for general admission and may be purchased online at tickets.flagler.edu or at\nthe Lewis Auditorium box office. Flagler faculty\, staff\, students and their immediate family\nmembers may obtain one free ticket directly from the box office. Non-Flagler students may\npurchase a discounted $5 ticket with their identification. During hours of operation\, the box\noffice can be reached at 904-826-8600

SUMMARY:Southside Johnny and The Asbury Jukes
DESCRIPTION:Southside Johnny’s story is one of resilience\, perseverance and making music for the love of music. It leaves you with a strong feeling of respect. Even though his friends Bruce Springsteen and Jon Bon Jovi achieved more fame\, Southside Johnny’s unmatched dedication will be remembered forever. The singer-songwriter and the front man of Southside Johnny and The Asbury Jukes is known for influencing what critics call the “New Jersey sound\,” but if you ask him about it as I did\, he would tell you that this sound does not exist. He believes every musician has his or her unique sound. \nEmerging from the New Jersey Shore music scene of the mid-1970’s\, co-founded by Steven Van Zandt (later of the E Street Band and The Sopranos)\, the Jukes’ classic R&B sound\, driven by soulful guitar and blistering horns\, propelled hits like “I Don’t Want to Go Home\,” “Having a Party\,” “The Fever\,” and “Talk to Me” up the charts. Rolling Stone Magazine voted Hearts of Stone one of the Top 100 albums of the 1970s and 1980s. \nPresented in partnership with Florida Theatre.

SUMMARY:Lenten Concert Series
DESCRIPTION:A Lenten Organ Concert Series is offered at Memorial Presbyterian each year during the Wednesdays of Lent at 12:30pm. Guest recitalists come from across the community\, the country\, and the world to play Memorial’s 155-rank\, over five thousand pipe\, Aeolian-Skinner organ. Admission is free. Donations are appreciated. \nIn 1969\, Reverend Dr. David Redding and organist Everett Eubanks approached two long-term members of the congregation about funding a new pipe organ for the congregation. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Johnson\, closely tied to the Mellon family of Pittsburgh\, Pennsylvania\, provided the money necessary for the project. The church selected the Aeolian-Skinner Pipe Organ Company of Boston\, Massachusetts\, to install the new pipe organ. The new organ contained 90 ranks and over 5\,000 pipes including the chimes from the old Roosevelt-Estey organ. In 1971\, the organ expanded with two additional divisions: the Bombarde division above the organ in the casework and the Antiphonal division in the north balcony. The Aeolian-Skinner organ at Memorial Church represents one of the “American Classic Organs” produced by the company during this period. In 2000\, R.A. Colby\, Inc. of Johnson City\, Tennessee\, rebuilt the organ console adding new MIDI technology to the organ allowing the organ to be played remotely in six locations throughout the sanctuary.

SUMMARY:Creative St. Augustine – Enlightened Artists\, Literary Locals\, And Historic Heroes of The Ancient City
DESCRIPTION:Art Historian Mallory O’Connor’s “Strangers in a Strange Land” will explore Florida’s art history and rich visual mythology. Beginning with Andre Thevet’s etching of the “Mythical Beast of the St. Johns River\,” she will present images that span centuries of time. Her lecture attests to both the vivid imagination of the artists like Salvador Dali and equally flamboyant narratives centered on the Sunshine State. This is a free event but reservations are required.

SUMMARY:Eric Johnson “Classics: Present and Past”
DESCRIPTION:Eric Johnson has been traveling on a prolific odyssey over the course of more than four decades. Along the way\, his creations have encompassed repertoire that cross pollinate genres which include rock\, blues\, jazz\, fusion\, soul\, folk\, new-age\, classical and even country. Inevitably E.J. says it best himself in sharing. “It really boils down to the music and the song at the end of the day\,” he explains. “If it doesn’t have that it gets boring for me. The most important thing for me is to grow musically and make a more expansive and meaningful artistic statement with every new project.” \nAs another decade turns\, the guitarist\, vocalist\, composer\, and multi-instrumentalist will release a new studio offering titled EJ Vol II. This album follows its predecessor from 2016 which was simply EJ\, an all-acoustic collection of songs which showcased nine original compositions and four covers. His approach was deeply honest\, intimate\, personal and delivered with organic emotion. The touring which followed presented the rare opportunity for fans to enjoy the artist’s performances on both guitar and piano. With EJ Vol II\, Johnson presents new repertoire that combines electric and acoustic arrangements. Additional detail on the upcoming album release will follow later this year. \nAmong Johnson’s many accolades are a Grammy award for “Cliffs Of Dover ” (a track from his Platinum certified Ah Via Musicom)\, lifetime induction into the Guitar Player Gallery of Greats\, his listing among the “100 Greatest Guitarists of the 20th Century” by Musician. In his hometown of Austin TX\, a city full of guitarists the readers of the Austin Chronicle have voted Johnson the city’s “Best Electric Guitarist” and “Best Acoustic Guitarist” in their yearly poll year after year. They also named him “Electric Guitarist of the Decade” and one of the top five “Musicians of the Decade”. \nThroughout his career\, Johnson has approached music as a healing force\, a way to enhance a listener’s consciousness and conjure joy and inspiration. “That’s what I’ve always appreciated most about other artists\,” he says. “Some artists inspire us to wake up and get back to the clarity of consciousness. With this record\, I’m trying to do that too\, because I appreciate it so much in other people.”

SUMMARY:Loving Beethoven Interactive Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:In 2020\, the world will celebrate Ludwig van Beethoven’s 250th birthday anniversary. The Cultural Center at Ponte Vedra Beach\, in partnership with MIMMA (Interactive Music Museum in Malaga\, Spain) is paying tribute to this milestone thanks to the traveling musical installation Loving Beethoven. The interactive music installation will be at the Cultural Center from March 6\, 2020 to May 26\, 2020.
