DESCRIPTION:On the first Friday of every month\, St. Augustine’s art galleries welcome visitors to browse the latest art exhibits and enjoy refreshments and live entertainment at more than 25 participating galleries. For lovers of local art and culture\, the First Friday Artwalk is a great way to celebrate both the start of a new month and the end of a long week. Spend your time hopping from gallery to gallery in the downtown area or jump on a complimentary shuttle and check out the galleries on the beach. \nThe monthly event takes place from 5 to 9pm\, rain or shine\, throughout historic downtown and even over the Bridge of Lions onto Anastasia Island and the beach. Galleries will put out refreshments\, artists will be on hand to talk about their work\, even musicians will fill the air with music. It’s a local delight that you don’t want to miss. \nThis creative event is sponsored by The Art Galleries of Saint Augustine\, which is an artistic association of the diverse and eclectic art galleries located in the nation’s oldest city.

DESCRIPTION:Butterfield Garage June Feature Artist Jim Rivers\, a “Wizard of Wood” and his handcrafted furniture. An Artist Talk\, First Friday June 7th\, at 6pm is an opportunity to experience the unbridled creativity of Jim and his often curious\, always charming pieces of furniture. \nJim has been practicing woodcraft since he was a child\, he began helping his woodcarver uncle search the woods for just the right piece of wood. Wood searching has been an important part of his life ever since. Over a lifetime\, Jim has developed an eye for seeing potential in unusual pieces of wood. “Nothing gives me greater pleasure than to walk through the countryside and find a piece of the Almighty’s creation that I can take home\, cut and polish\, and turn into something that people will like.” His impressive wood collection includes\, cedar\, sweet-gum\, oak and pine.\nWhat an untrained eye might see as an imperfection\, Jim sees as an opportunity. Its a wonder to watch him work. Crude logs are sawed\, shaped and sanded\, coaxed by his touch and sense of the wood’s potential. Edges are not precise. Surprises are embraced. The final finished piece is a work of art\, no two pieces are alike. Jim works in his wood shop everyday\, and is continually collecting new wood and experimenting with new techniques. Butterfield has been graced with his mirrors\, tables and benches for years\, and they have become enthusiastically collected. When his studio was next door at the former Energy Lab\, Jim could be spotted making furniture on the front portico of the gallery. Butterfield Garage will be freshly stocked with new pieces\, placed throughout the gallery during the month of June.

DESCRIPTION:When Annie’s husband John dies of leukemia\, she and best friend Chris resolve to raise money for a new settee in the local hospital waiting room. They manage to persuade four fellow WI members to pose nude with them for an “alternative” calendar\, with a little help from hospital porter and amateur photographer Lawrence. The news of the women’s charitable venture spreads like wildfire\, and hordes of press soon descend on the small village of Knapeley in the Yorkshire Dales. The calendar is a success\, but Chris and Annie’s friendship is put to the test under the strain of their new-found fame. \nRegular tickets are $26 for adults; $24 for ages 62 and older; $20 for military and students; and $10 student rush for students with I.D.\, available 30 minutes prior to curtain for available seats. Preview Night is the first Thursday of each production and is $15 per ticket. Terrific Tuesday\, the Tuesday after opening weekend only offers a special on 2 tickets for $30. One free ticket for children up to age 12 is available with purchase of full price ticket at $26; children age 13 and older pay adult price. \nShowtimes are 7:30 p.m. from Thursday – Saturday and at 2:00 p.m. on Sundays. Lightner museum educators will provide a richer understanding of the types of printmaking while encouraging young visitors to truly look and appreciate why artists choose to work in their selected print media. Our tour will be followed by an enjoyable printmaking activity. Little Lightners (ages 5 – 9 accompanied by an adult) will meet from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. and Lightner Leaders (ages 10 – 14) will meet from 2:00 – 3:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 for children with an additional $5 fee for parents living outside of St. Johns County. DESCRIPTION:Smoke on the Mountain is one of the most produced shows worldwide\, with songs from hymns and bluegrass tunes. The show features two dozen rousing bluegrass songs played and sung by the Sanders Family\, a traveling group making its return to performing after a five-year hiatus. Pastor Oglethorpe\, the young and enthusiastic minister of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church\, has enlisted the Sanders Family in his efforts to bring his tiny congregation into “the modern world.” Between songs\, each family member “witnesses” – telling a story about an important event in their life. DESCRIPTION:Every year\, the Florida Living History\, Inc. and the Fort Mose Historical Society reenact the 1740 Spanish victory at the Battle of Bloody Mose. Visitors can participate in the commemoration of the battle and enjoy reenactments of the 1740 battle that forced the British to retreat from Spanish Florida. The reenactments will take place at 12 pm and 2 pm\, but there will be activities throughout the day like musket demonstrations and craft-making – like blacksmithing\, finger weaving\, and pine needle basket weaving.
