DESCRIPTION:When Annie’s husband John dies of leukemia\, she and best friend Chris resolve to raise money for a new settee in the local hospital waiting room. They manage to persuade four fellow WI members to pose nude with them for an “alternative” calendar\, with a little help from hospital porter and amateur photographer Lawrence. The calendar is a success\, but Chris and Annie’s friendship is put to the test under the strain of their new-found fame. Shows will take place at Thursday-Saturday at 7:30pm. Sunday shows will take place at 2pm. Admission is $26.

Edgar Degas\, one of the leading lights of the 19th-century art scene\, is best known for his enchanting paintings of ballet dancers on and off the stage. But little is widely known about the enigmatic artist’s life and personality. Featuring over fifty original works by Degas\, The Lightner Museum offers unique insights into Degas’ inner world and the opportunity to see rarely exhibited works from the private collection of curator Robert Flynn Johnson. \nEdgar Degas: The Private Impressionist is on view at the Lightner from April 12 – June 16\, 2019. Our limited-engagement showing is free for museum members or for $5 above the price of museum admission. DESCRIPTION:Butterfield Garage June Feature Artist Jim Rivers\, a “Wizard of Wood” and his handcrafted furniture. An Artist Talk\, First Friday June 7th\, at 6pm is an opportunity to experience the unbridled creativity of Jim and his often curious\, always charming pieces of furniture. \nJim has been practicing woodcraft since he was a child\, he began helping his woodcarver uncle search the woods for just the right piece of wood. Wood searching has been an important part of his life ever since. Over a lifetime\, Jim has developed an eye for seeing potential in unusual pieces of wood. “Nothing gives me greater pleasure than to walk through the countryside and find a piece of the Almighty’s creation that I can take home\, cut and polish\, and turn into something that people will like.” His impressive wood collection includes\, cedar\, sweet-gum\, oak and pine.\nWhat an untrained eye might see as an imperfection\, Jim sees as an opportunity. Its a wonder to watch him work. Crude logs are sawed\, shaped and sanded\, coaxed by his touch and sense of the wood’s potential. Edges are not precise. Surprises are embraced. The final finished piece is a work of art\, no two pieces are alike. Jim works in his wood shop everyday\, and is continually collecting new wood and experimenting with new techniques. Butterfield has been graced with his mirrors\, tables and benches for years\, and they have become enthusiastically collected. When his studio was next door at the former Energy Lab\, Jim could be spotted making furniture on the front portico of the gallery. Butterfield Garage will be freshly stocked with new pieces\, placed throughout the gallery during the month of June.

DESCRIPTION:The Art Studio & Gallery of St. Augustine Beach is proud to feature Ellie McIntosh as our Artist of the Month for June.\nWe will hold a reception during First Friday Art Walk on June 7\, 2019 from 5pm-8pm.\nEllie McIntosh holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Interior Architecture and Design from the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design with a minor in Sustainable Design and has studied painting in the US and abroad. Throughout the evolution of her career she has continued to grow her fine art portfolio as well as to paint large scale commercial and residential murals and fine art. This exhibition features her Vintage Swimmer collection and sea life abstracts and are inspired by summer vacations at the beach as a young girl. They have a minimalist graphic quality to them and are all painted in vibrant colors. She is currently pursuing her Master of Science in Entrepreneurship at Western Carolina University.\nThe Art Studio & Gallery of St. Augustine Beach is a not-for-profit\, member-run venue. Spend your time hopping from gallery to gallery in the downtown area or jump on a complimentary shuttle and check out the galleries on the beach. \nThe monthly event takes place from 5 to 9pm\, rain or shine\, throughout historic downtown and even over the Bridge of Lions onto Anastasia Island and the beach. Galleries will put out refreshments\, artists will be on hand to talk about their work\, even musicians will fill the air with music. The news of the women’s charitable venture spreads like wildfire\, and hordes of press soon descend on the small village of Knapeley in the Yorkshire Dales. The calendar is a success\, but Chris and Annie’s friendship is put to the test under the strain of their new-found fame. \nRegular tickets are $26 for adults; $24 for ages 62 and older; $20 for military and students; and $10 student rush for students with I.D.\, available 30 minutes prior to curtain for available seats. Preview Night is the first Thursday of each production and is $15 per ticket. Terrific Tuesday\, the Tuesday after opening weekend only offers a special on 2 tickets for $30. One free ticket for children up to age 12 is available with purchase of full price ticket at $26; children age 13 and older pay adult price. \nShowtimes are 7:30 p.m. from Thursday – Saturday and at 2:00 p.m. on Sundays.
