SUMMARY:La Vie En Bleu: The Life & Art of Marguerite Castaing
DESCRIPTION:Born in 1900 in southern France to a family of painters\, Marguerite Castaing had a long career as an artist. At 16 she became a member of the French Salon where she exhibited for over two decades. While living in Paris\, she studied under renowned artists Paul Albert Laurens and Pierre Bonnard\, and she rubbed shoulders with influential writers\, collectors\, and critics like Pulitzer Prize winner Louis Bromfield. Marguerite’s work\, Impressionistic in style\, elicits passion and precision. The artist was inspired by the people and places that surrounded her\, from family and friends to the rolling landscapes of southern France\, and eventually the colorful seasons of New England. On display for the first time in over a decade\, this exhibition of her work showcases over 80 drawings\, paintings and pastels detailing her life as a passionate female artist throughout the 20th Century.

SUMMARY:Fiber Artist Amy Hemphill Dove is December Featured Artist At Butterfield Garage
DESCRIPTION:Amy will be in the Gallery all day Sunday\, December 6 to discuss her work and demo a few of her her botanical alchemy techniques. \nAmy Hemphill Dove’s materials and subject matter are pure nature. She roams landcapes collecting everything that catches her attention\, and back in her studio she explores the potentials. Amy exclaims “I love this process! The botanicals releases remarkable secrets from local plants that we see every day and often take for granted. Botanical dyeing and printing allow me to look beyond the usual green of leaves and to really see the shapes\, structure and the chemistry in nature.” \nAnd Amy knows her chemistry\, earning a Bachelor of Science in Textile Design from Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science. After college\, Amy also worked as a Jacquard fabric designer for a major eastern mill\, creating many contemporary\, abstract\, floral\, and more traditionally patterned interior fabrics for select furniture manufacturers. \nA consummate experimenter\, Amy combines techniques and materials freely. She dyes\, felts\, prints\, stitches onto a range of natural textiles to suprising results. Using diverse techniques of Shibori (the Japanese art of resist dyeing and texturing)\, folding\, pleating\, binding\, and printing: she creates a unique beauty and diversity in her pieces. There are so many variables at work in this kind of alchemy\, including soil\, climate\, water\, PH\, type and weave of the fibers and fabrics\, they keep Amy on her toes. \nHer drive to explore new directions\, generates incredible variety in her pieces\, each is a one-of-a-kind creation. The broad range of fibers and techniques she uses become scarves\, tapestries\, shawls and more\, all with an organic beauty that take your breath away. On display this month are hand-dyed\, botanical printed silk scarves\, shawls\, wraps and felted wall-hangings.

SUMMARY:Dark of the Moon Tour
DESCRIPTION:The Dark of the Moon Ghost Tour is the only tour that gets you into the Lighthouse at night. The Lighthouse offers two options for this experience\, both of which include the option to rent EMF readers. \nGhost tour: This 1.5 to 2 hour tour includes a guided talk through the 1876 Keepers’ House and the 1874 St. Augustine Lighthouse tower. Your guide will share true tales from the history of our Light Station. Tours are offered year round on Friday\, Saturday and Sundays and more days during peak times. Purchase a combo ticket with regular daytime admission and save on this tour. Expect larger groups during peak season and holidays. \nInvestigation Only: See for yourself why we are consistently ranked as one of the most haunted sites in St. Augustine! Investigation Only tours are offered on a more limited basis than the Ghost Tour\, with fewer spaces available at each. Rent readers or bring your own equipment. \nSpace is limited! Purchase tickets online in advance to secure your spot. \nOn a Dark of the Moon Ghost Tour you not only hear spooky stories based on real history in the lighthouse at night\, you also help the Lighthouse investigate our maritime past. Ghost Tours support both maritime archaeology and historic research discoveries at the Museum. Stepping up to shiver down your spine helps save our underwater heritage!
