DESCRIPTION:A favorite annual local event\, Music by the Sea lets guests relax in the ocean breeze\, sample the delicious foods of local restaurants\, and listen to some fantastic tunes. It’s a family-friendly celebration of all things St. Augustine Beach! Each week\, a different restaurant sponsors the event and a different artist performs. Concerts take place rain or shine\, though they may be canceled if the weather is severe. Entrance to the event is free\, and meals are $10 or less per person. Food is served at 6pm\, and the concert begins at 7pm.

DESCRIPTION:St. Augustine’s free summer music series returns for its 29th season serving up some of the best musical entertainment in Northeast Florida. The series is known for showcasing the best in regional musical talent including bluegrass and blues\, jazz and country\, swing and folk\, old-time and popular rock. There is no permanent seating in the Plaza\, so guests should bring lounge chairs\, blankets\, or something to sit on. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited\, but picnics are welcome.

DESCRIPTION:On the first Saturday of every month\, from 9-11am\, the Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve (GTMNERR) hosts a Guided Exploration Hike\, where attendees can learn about the cultural history of the Guana Peninsula\, as well as the natural ecosystem of the Reserve. \nA GTM naturalist will lead the hike and teach about the peninsula’s 5\,000 years of human history\, including how native peoples made use of the estuarine resources\, what European plantation life was like\, and current efforts to save those resources. \nThe hike is free\, but there is a $3 per vehicle parking fee at the reserve. \nPlease call (904) 823-4500 or visit here to reserve a spot on the tour. \n

SUMMARY:From Asia to the Americas: the Art of Jean Wagner Troemel
DESCRIPTION:Take an extraordinary journey through the art and travels of Jean Wagner Troemel! Selections include original oils\, watercolors\, alkyds\, and mono prints representing Jean’s travels and adaptations of artistic movements. All artwork in the exhibition will be offered for sale with proceeds supporting the St. Augustine Art Association Jean Wagner Troemel Award in perpetuity. The exhibit will be on display at the St. Augustine Art Association starting July 20th\, with an Art Auction ($ reservations required) and running through August 25\, 2019. \nAbout the Artist\nBorn in Alma\, Michigan in 1921\, Jean Wagner Troemel was a versatile and prolific artist whose prized works are included in collections worldwide. She specialized in landscapes and also produced over 600 portraits\, many of historical figures. Troemel was an honored Fellow of the Royal Society of Art\, London. Her works were shown in prestigious museums across the U.S. and throughout Florida\, including the Mennello Museum of American Art\, a subsidiary of the Smithsonian\, which purchased five of her paintings in 2007. She was included in the World’s Who’s Who of Women and The Directory of American Portrait Artists.\nA champion of the arts\, Troemel founded the Winter Haven Ridge Art Association in 1950\, the PAStA Art Gallery in St. Augustine\, and served on the Florida Arts Group Board (FLAG). She spearheaded St. Augustine’s First Friday Art Walks and funded the Best in Show Award that continues to be presented monthly at the St. Augustine Art Association. Jean Wagner Troemel passed away on January 18\, 2018\, leaving behind an enduring and inspiring legacy of art. \nGALLERY HOURS: Tuesday through Saturday\, 12pm-4pm; Sunday 2pm-5pm; Closed on Mondays. Hosted by the St. Augustine Sailing Sisters\, the Bikini Race is made up of crews that are at least 50% women and always have a woman at the helm. There will be a launch party on Friday night at Meehan’s Irish Pub\, and the race itself will begin at 1pm on Saturday. Spectators will get the best views from the Vilano Bridge or Kingfish Grille. Awards and a reception will be held immediately following the race. Proceeds benefit the Betty Griffin Center. \n
